"The Schiavo case will probably be the turning point, in our ability to make our case to Americans about the incredible invasiveness of Republicans, when it comes to (citizens) making personal and private decisions," he said. By contrast, the Democrats should be viewed as "the party of individual freedom ... individual and personal responsibility," he said.
One problem, however, is that while Dean may speak officially for the Democratic party, he's only one of many players. Sunday, he struggled to explain why so many Senate Democrats barely raised a whimper when the Schiavo intervention bill was sailing through the chamber.
Dean said: "I can't speak for Democrats in the Senate. We didn't confer. It came up very fast," at a time when Democrats were focused on derailing Bush's Social Security privatization plan.
But now he's fixated on the Schiavo fallout, and he thinks it will play well in places like Arizona, a fast-growing red state with a centrist Democratic governor, the kind of state that Democrats need to win in future presidential elections. He thinks the Schiavo case will hurt the GOP in Arizona, a place where so many conservatives have "a huge ethos about individualism."
An angry, embittered man, drunk with bloodlust...
(Nodding head in agreement, sadly.)
* The democrats are pretty stupid. I will help them out. Republican Judges like Greer killed Terri by judicial fiat.*
I agree, FV~!! The Demos, Dean and the MSM constantly fail to report the truth about Terri. Republican Judge's involvement in Terri's case, appear to be the best kept secret going. You'd think Florida was controlled by the Demo party, if you only listened to the MSM and Dean.
I look forward to seeing your website. You mentioned the 4th of July - Are you aware, that NASA launched a rocket a few months back. They plan to fire a huge explosive, warhead into a comet on - THE 4TH OF JULY!! I have no idea just what they are trying to prove.
It should be interesting to see if a massive hole blown into a comet, will cause problems. Odd that we have all kinds of money available for the comet foolishness, complete with fireworks in outer space on the 4th. Do you suppose NASA is trying to duplicate the Hollywood movie, with a similar theme? Weird, imo.
I'm so sick of politics right now. This morning on MSNBC a demo (sorry I didn't get his name), referred to Dr Dobson as the religious hard right and then went on to say that we don't need America to be turned into another Iraq or Saudia Arbia, by the likes of Dobson. Interesting that Demos get by with slamming conservative people and comparing them to Saddam. The MSM is truly on the side of death and destruction and I'm really disgusted by the implication that people like ourselves are dangerous, while the real danger - the killers of Terri - get a free pass.
I can hardly stand to watch the MSM this morning. People like Norah O'Donnell of MSNBC, are giddy with joy over McCain and his deal with the demos. My favorite politicans continue to be Tom Delay and also Scarbrough. Scarbrough was taken to task by the MSM for using a Hitler analogy on the Senate Floor this past week. Interesting isn't it? Since, some on FreeRepubulic, freak out over any reference to Hitler.
Our world now is a place of PC speech, with NO room for the truth. Individual rights/freedoms now means you really have NO rights, but instead should be FORCED TO DIE, according to Dean and others. Pretty sad and scary!! Dean is a moron. Arizona's demo governor wouldn't even meet with him when he was in Arizona. That's the only thing she's done that I agree with.
FUE, thanks for the ping to this thread! I sure hope Ohioan is okay. I really miss her.
Dean is an idiot. Well I have to vote for a third party now that the lesser of two evils is a farce. Both sides suck.
"We need more conservatives judges." I got a call from the GOP today ranting about Howard Dean. I told the guy that Howard Dean's no worse than the liberals in teh republican party and that I'd consider helping the GOP if they kicked the liberals out of the party. I think I reamed him for about five minutes. Turns out, a lot of GOP are mad at the US Congress. The call today was to get my support for the State Party. Sorry, republicans killed Terri, no can do.
The belittling disregard for Terry's life has done a lot of damage here.
This whole issue is just on a slow simmer in the under current.
Anger turned to quiet planning.
"The belittling disregard for Terry's life has done a lot of damage here."
This ordeal and some of the responses by supposed conservatives has been an eye opener for me.
Even many that claim to be conservative hold fast to what has become of the judicial system. Some are beholden to the system because they have a vested interest in maintaining its status and stature.
There is one standard that sets this nation apart from all others on this planet. That acknowledgment stated that "Rights are endowed by the Creator, no man/government/state can take", that is the key to our Heavenly protection and blessings. Think not check out the nations and the peoples of the rest of the world.
The day that we turn over to a group in black robes the power to endow the RIGHTS only the Creator has the authority to give or take is the day we become one and the same as the rest of the world. Which is exactly what the liberals and the moderate nobles are counting upon.
Yes...we are in complete agreement here.
Why are people in our own party conveniently forgetting that?
My guess is that they are falling pray to the "Theocracy" spin. We have never been a Theocracy and most definitely are not now but we are still a nation of mostly Christians.
I just wish we could act more like we are Christians without being discriminated against at every turn by the new socialist/atheist coalition now know as the Democratic Party.
They say some of them are Christians but they sure seem anti-Christian to me.
Did you see Howard Dean on the Today show this morning?
His big spin now is that the Republicans are just a bunch of white men/Christians who don't include anyone else.
Nothing really new with that lie...except the "don't include anyone" else part.
American Christians have included and excepted more diversity throughout our short history then any other nation on earth.
We are the melting pot for Christ's sake!
( Sorry..just getting a little bit put out this morning that Deano was dissing my Country.)
I like Fr. Pavone a lot. And when I have any doubts about my desire to join the Catholic church because the mass is too liberal, I just have to listen to the POTP where they pray for "an end to the scourge of abortion" to come to my senses and know that this is the only sane church out there. Just about. Well, the other big player, the Southern Baptists is moral too, just not my style.
That makes a super huge block.
Take note that there is practically no Christian denomination in America that would have condoned Terri's death as it was carried out.
ADDRESS OF JOHN PAUL II TO THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON "LIFE-SUSTAINING TREATMENTS AND VEGETATIVE STATE: SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES AND ETHICAL DILEMMAS" Saturday, 20 March 2004
"....I feel the duty to reaffirm strongly that the intrinsic value and personal dignity of every human being do not change, no matter what the concrete circumstances of his or her life. A man, even if seriously ill or disabled in the exercise of his highest functions, is and always will be a man, and he will never become a "vegetable" or an "animal"....
I should like particularly to underline how the administration of water and food, even when provided by artificial means, always represents a natural means of preserving life, not a medical act. Its use, furthermore, should be considered, in principle, ordinary and proportionate, and as such morally obligatory, insofar as and until it is seen to have attained its proper finality, which in the present case consists in providing nourishment to the patient and alleviation of his suffering.
.....As a pledge and support of this, your authentic humanitarian mission to give comfort and support to your suffering brothers and sisters, I remind you of the words of Jesus: "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me" (Mt 25: 40).
"....WHEREAS, Western medicine has heretofore followed both the Judeo-Christian tradition and the over 2,500 year-old Hippocratic tradition forbidding physicians to assist in the death of their patients; and
WHEREAS, The Bible teaches that God created all human life in His own image and declares human life to be sacred from conception until natural death (Genesis 1:29:6 and following); and
WHEREAS, The Bible likewise teaches that murder, including self-murder, is immoral (Exodus 20:13); and
WHEREAS, American society seems to be embracing of the "culture of death"...."
Be it therefore RESOLVED, that we the messengers of the Southern Baptist Convention, meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, June 11-13, 1996, affirm the biblical and Hippocratic prohibitions against assisted suicide.."
...."Euthanasia is understood to be the view or practice which holds that a person has the right, and even the moral obligation, to end his or her life when it is considered to be - for whatever subjectively accepted reason "not worth living." Euthanasia advocates nearly always include in this assertion the right and duty of others, including medical personnel, to assist the person in fulfilling this purpose. Needless to say, the Orthodox Church rejects such a view, seeing such behavior as a form of suicide on the part of the individual, and a form of murder on a part of others who assist in this practice, both of which are seen as sins. Thus the Orthodox Church, in the words of 1976 Chrismms encyclical of former Archbishop Iakovos, considers "euthanasia and abortion, along with homosexuality...a...moral alienation."....
"....Today there are mounting pressures upon medical professionals, pastors, families, and individuals to hasten the death of those under their care or authority. Such hastening sometimes takes the form of direct action, such as a lethal injection. It may also take a passive form in neglect or withdrawal of the necessary means of preservation of life. Such means include medical treatment, both extraordinary and ordinary. But they also include basic provisions normally understood as care, warmth, cleanliness, food, water, and love.
Christians must distinguish between "treatment" and "care". Where medical treatment which is not gravely burdensome is necessary for an individual to continue to live, the withdrawal of such treatment - except in cases where death is imminent and inevitable and to continue such treatment would pose a grave risk or cause more burden to the patient than it would alleviate - is a violation of the image of God which all men and women bear..."
I had to go to both all my life.
Believe me..on what really counts there isn't much of a difference.
Really? Between Episcopalian and Catholic the services, propers, churches, liturgies are all but identical. But the church takes to position and doesn't really teach any absolute truth or right from wrong. I'm sick to death of moral relativism and I won't condone it in my church any more.
The bottom line that I have seen is that they all have an intense love of Christ.
That's what's important to me.
Everything else is window dressing evidenced by the equal amount of across the board disciplined believers and the fringers.
I do believe those churches you mention are close to Catholicism in morality though different in doctrine and style. The trouble with the Episcopal church is they want to keep all the parts about God's love for us but they want to leave out most of the parts about good and evil and being fallen creatures, and all the icky stuff. Like abortion and euthanazia, and homosexuality, and death penalty, and all the other difficult questions which aren't really so difficult, they just make people angry.
Not saying the Catholic church is righteous, no group of humans is, but they take a stand. That's all I can ask for.
p.s. when I was a child the Episcopal Church was perfectly respectable and strong for Christ. They have lost their way, and I can't stay to try to help shepherd them back anymore, I've tried.
I haven't seen or met any of them in my area.
A lot of people have been screaming about the empty Anglican churches in Europe. Guess I didn't make the connection. Thanks.
I doubt you will run across too many of them here on FR.
They're just very live and let live. They've tried to be so all inclusive that they don't stand for anything, and a group of radical homosexuals has taken over the church at the national level -- surely you've heard all the hubub about the gaybish. Most of the conservatives left back in the 70s-80s over the ordination of women and more leave with every new outrage. Not that there's anything wrong with women per se but it was the beginning of the end because once you change something that fundamental the door is open to change anything you feel like changing.
Even the 'piskies I like and who are relatively conservative check their opinions on things like abortion and homosexuality at the door when they come to church -- which I may have to do at Catholic Church as well to some extent, but I will have Pope Benedict XVI to back me up.
They used to be about 10 million strong when the nation was much smaller, now there are less than 2 million out of 300 million. They're a tiny sect, with far more money and attention than they deserve. And they are about to split again over the gaybish issue. Good riddance. The faithful will eventually return to Rome and the followers of satan (homo-leninists) will go to hell and the ripples in the pond will smooth over and it will be as if it never existed at all.
Pretty scary stuff but reality stinks sometimes.
Jesus loves the little children but he's not a fool for anything goes when all is said and done.
