This is a good point and I've made it before here. Civilians are not immune from being brought up on war crimes charges for violations of the Geneva Conventions. The publication of these photos would qualify.

Actually the first thing I've seen out of Iraq on these photos made, as I expected, no big deal out of it. I'd recalled Saddam making public macho swims in the Tigris and thought these photos showed him to still be in good physical shape. If Bill thought he still looked this good he'd stage another beach photo with Hillary! Check out these comments at

The whole idea of conventions, universally ignored, is silly.
Besides, it applies to
countries, not individuals.
In any case it cannot ever apply to surrogate armies. Period. Any attempt to do so makes the proponents ever bigger idiots.
We won't even get into the bottom line of treaties and conventions.
The stupid point hanging over it all is: who enforces it against the 900-pound gorilla? 57 5-gram snails?
