Darnell Colquitt thought the TV reporters didnt belong in the Tillicum hood and told them so. People tote heat around here, he warned. He started to pedal away on a bicycle, then stopped, turned, and told the reporters what would happen if they were still there when he came back.
Youre dead where you stand, he said.
That, and a hail of racial slurs, earned him a trip to jail Thursday, along with a rare charge from Pierce County prosecutors: a black-on-white hate crime.

We don't need any B/S hate crime laws!
Be careful what you wish for, Jesse Jackson and company.
gee what were they recording when the guy started to talking?????
After Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton put together an angry mob to march on city hall, the case will dismissed on a technicality and the DA will apologize.
What law would you have used instead ..??
"Friday, Colquitt, 21, appeared in court for his arraignment. Bail was set at $20,000.
Sorensen said the amount was low because Colquitt didnt have a history of violence."
Maybe not but it sounds like he has a bright future of it.
Agree. The addition of 'Hate Crime' is just another way of conferring Special Rights on preferred groups and eases the way for claims of victimhood and the award of damages that is certain to follow. Our pandering politicians understand this but can't resist their fear of these special interests. More divisiveness to come courtesy of Jesse Jackson and his ilk.
"gee what were they recording when the guy started to talking?????"
They were probably doing the set up part of the story. You know, the "I'm standing here blah, blah, in front of the house where....etc."
It's not clear if his words constituted an unlawful threat or a constitutionally protected statement of what the neighborhood is like.
And of course, mere insults not crimes.
true, I didn't think of that. budding gang banger.
They charged a black man with a hate crime against a white man?
Jesse. Oh Jesse. Jeessssee! Hey Jeeessseee! Al oh Al where forth art thou Al?
Hate crimes are crap and IMHO unconstitutional.
What law would I have used? What kind of a question is that suppose to be?
Okay, I see your lost in the confusion of the hate crime topic.
How about threatening to do bodily harm, for starters? How about assault? I'm certain each and every state in the Union has those laws.
Head clearing now?
---He started to pedal away on a bicycle, then stopped, turned, and told the reporters what would happen if they were still there when he came back.---
He was going to do a ride-by shooting!
Youre dead where you stand, he said. ... is a threat. A threat to do bodily injury is assault.
What a mess. The article is almost worthless. Was the man arrested for threats of violence, predictions of violence, racial slurs, or as a preventive measure?
The whole fiasco suggests how dangerous hate crime legislation can be to civil liberties.
I hate the word "hate crimes" because it's a stupid idea from the leftist PC group.
