Two people were arrested Thursday night for allegedly trying to board a plane with guns at Philadelphia International Airport.
NBC 10 News has learned, and the FBI has confirmed that the men were just one step away from boarding an American Airlines flight sometime after 8 p.m. Thursday.
Sources told NBC 10 News that Timothy Robinson, of Philadelphia, and Steven Lundy, of Roselle, N.J., cleared the first checkpoint and were headed toward the airplane when an American Airlines representative looked at their paperwork and saw that the men were posing as police officers. The representative felt uncomfortable because she didn't think that they were really police officers, so she called the police department.
FBI agents said that the two men showed airport officials fake badges and fake police identification cards to clear security with the loaded handguns. They also filled out paperwork claiming that they were private police. Authorities said one gun was a .357 Magnum and the second gun was a 9 mm.
The Transportation and Safety Administration launched an investigation and the FBI arrested both men.
Robinson and Lundy were taken to the federal building in downtown Philadelphia Friday and were arraigned on charges connected to posing as polce officers and attempting to board an airplane with firearms.
The investigation is continuing.
"that is just a myth caused by the anti's."
I watched Mythbusters too.............
"Don't make a big deal out of it."
You wouldn't, by chance, be out on a $10,000 unsecured bon and awaiting a May 27 hearing?
Well, due to the negligent misjudgement on the part of our LEO or TSA, we may never know whether or not it was a "harmless joke." /sarcasm off
And the last time I checked, impersonating an officer was a serious offense.
I hope that your assumptions are right, or other heads may be lost.
Arlington Road?
No, it shouldn't leave out "posing as", but it doesn't belong in that phrase - it's confusing and inaccurate. The problem with being "not too picky" is that, in general, writing skills are in serious decline.
What Brady Bunch crap have you been reading? Won't happen. Can't happen.
The report I heard on the badges said they represented about every kind of agency that wears badges. I've also been keeping mental track of uniform thefts over the past several years from airlines, policing agencies and other kinds of authorities. Let's hope they pump the guy they caught smuggling the badges HARD!
Meanwhile I've also been keeping mental track of stories about non-Arabs who are joining with various Muslim causes on university campuses, in Canada, etc. I'm sure many of them are as nutzo as the idiot from Marin County, CA, who was fighting for the Taliban. The new wave of hijackers will likely have Anglo faces and represent Authority.
Yep and then a 500lb fat guy gets sucked through a keyhole.
;)
We need to get a contact email address for Am Airlines, let them know we appreciate what their employee did. That we will put AA at the top of our list when planning to fly. They will at least give the employee some recognition if not a bonus award.
Hey, remember what happened to "Goldfinger"!;)
You should have posted a reference to a supplemental story at that point. The original story that's the focus of discussion did not, in fact, discuss bail.
2 Men Arrested Allegedly Trying To Board Plane With Guns, (and fake police badges)ping.
Good Lord. There must be a whole lot to this story they aren't telling us!!!!!! I Hope.
Something in this story's false. Bail does not follow something like this.
Pretty strange story !!!
I felt the same way. Oh, and to everyone else flaming me for my comment on a round going through a bulkhead and causing the plane to break up, well, I appologize for stating things I have little knowledge of.
Anyway, I would venture to guess that this may just be another one of those "let's test the TSA" hijinx. Nevertheless, these fools should have the book thrown at them and be put away for a long time.
As for weapons on an airplane. I guess I wouldn't mind that. I would allow me to carry my .45 ACP with me where ever I went. And I think you guys are right; It would cut down on hijacking if only for the fact that they would soon become extinct. LOL
Ok guys, sorry. But wouldn't the cabin depressurization really Suck, LOL.
Yes, but that's what the oxygen masks are for - and your blood won't boil; it's not outer space, after all.
And bullet holes would result in fairly slow depressurization, so you'd have plenty of time to don the O2 mask.
Fighting off panic-stricken idiots and Oprah-types (but here I diverge into redundancy; sorry) would probably be the most life-threatening aspect.
