Conservatives Take Aim at Newspaper Guild President

The president of The Newspaper Guild has drawn intense flak from conservative news groups after it was disclosed that she had accused the U.S. military of targeting journalists in Iraq. In remarks made during a panel discussion at the National Conference for Media Reform in St. Louis on May 13, Linda Foley said that not only U.S. journalists were being targeted. "They target and kill journalists from other countries, particularly Arab countries, at news services like Al Jazeera, for example. They actually target them and blow up their studios, with impunity." The conservative website NewsMax.com charged that Foley had accused U.S. soldiers of "committing atrocities without offering any evidence to back the charge up." Foley amplified her remarks in an interview with Editor & Publisher on Thursday, pointing out that Al Jazeera had given U.S. authorities the coordinates of its television station before it was bombed in 2003. "They bombed it knowing it was the Al Jazeera station. Absent any independent inquiry that tells the world otherwise, that is what I believe."

All she has to do is to cite specific examples. Where are they?

Fred Barnes said he asked Peter Jennings if he would warn American soldiers of an impending attack. Jennings said he would but changed his mind when another reporter said no.

With that attitude I have little concern for journalists.

I wish this were true. These bastards are giving aid and comfort to our enemies.

They don't even have to manipulate facts anymore, as in the case of forged documents; now, all they have to do is dream up some scenario and it is presented as fact.

I'd like for her to explain how our military has the most sophisticated armaments in the world, we've already killed and captured untold amounts of terrorists, and, yet, there isn't a desert full of dead journalists.

Hm....Didn't she see what happened to the last "journalist" who made this same accusation without providing any proof?

I hate to generalize but, I'm beginning to assume the vast majority of journalists are pinheads.

Those who can't do, teach.  And of them, those who can't teach become journalists.....apparently.

I can't remember any major commotion about our bombing of the Al Jazeera building in Baghdad(?).

I do recall that Al Jazeera was being used as a propaganda disseminator, fomenting hate towards the US and putting out a lot of false information.

I thought it was a worthy target, as it was making the war effort more difficult for our troops.

Linda Foley thinks journalists should be given special dispensation to wander freely and safely around hot war zones, and that enemy propaganda agencies should be protected, not taken out.

What a liberal twit.
