Ex-owner of finger lashes out: 'It's been hell'

Friends at bar say he grew angry that his mother spoke to media about case -

Las Vegas -- After days of hiding, the man whose infamous fingertip ended up in the middle of the Wendy's chili scandal said Thursday night that his life had been thrown into a tailspin by the case.

"It's been hell -- you don't even know!" Brian Rossiter, 36, bellowed from behind the door to his apartment at Thrift Suites, where residents pay by the week. He slammed his fists on the door and yelled obscenities as two reporters stood outside.

Rossiter said he had done nothing wrong but refused to discuss the case. He also said he was tired of the media attention and at one point shoved a television reporter before retreating behind the door.

Court documents released Wednesday show that after Rossiter had an accident late last year at the asphalt company where he works, he gave his fingertip to co-worker James Plascencia, apparently with the understanding that Plascencia planned to use the appendage to swindle a food company.

That co-worker turned out to be the husband of Anna Ayala, the woman later accused of planting the finger in a San Jose Wendy's in March to get a legal settlement. Officials from the Santa Clara County district attorney's office have said they have no plans to file charges against Rossiter.

Although Rossiter was terse Thursday night, he held court the day before at his favorite watering hole, the Sporting Chance Saloon, where his bar buddies refer to him by his nickname, "Fudge."

Tell me again why the finger was described as well manicured? I thought DNA was still pointing towards Female.

I can just imagine the questions the press are asking him, like "did it hurt when your finger was cut off?"

He wasn't terse; he was hungover.

It sounds as though "Fudge" failed to grasp the severity of the issues at hand. Perhaps he should pack it in and forget about high-fiving himself for being digitally famous.

You never know what trouble you can get into when you give someone the finger... lesson learned, the hard way!

I'd ask this loser why he did't head straight to the hospital to have it reattached?

I can see why he's tired of the press. The whole nation now knows he's a dumbass.

So Rossiter knew that Plascencia was planning a swindle, and he's complaining about how his life has been hell? Oh, cry me a river. Last I heard, he wasn't going to be charged with anything. He should consider himself lucky, and go slink back under a rotten log.

I wonder why they can't charge him with conspiracy to defraud? Did he come forward about the finger or did the investigators smoke him out? Or did he seek the Wendy's reward?

Actually, it doesn't hurt at all. Many years ago I was working on a boat engine and got my finger cut off (the last 1/3 of the finger). No pain whatsoever. It got sewed back on at the hospital. Still using it today, although the tip won't bend anymore.

I had a similar experience in an offshore accident when a finger was split wide open and had to be airlifted out. The thing was numb and didn't feel anything. Didn't even know I had an injury until I took off my glove.
