ANKARA, Turkey - Iraq's new prime minister said Friday he will soon visit neighboring Syria to demand that the government halt the flow of foreign insurgents crossing into Iraq.
Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari also said it was not clear Syria was backing the gunmen.
"There are some armed groups infiltrating from Syria.... How much of this infiltration is related to the Syrian government, we will discuss this issue directly with Syrian authorities," al-Jaafari said at a news conference with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"We will visit Syria some time soon, and one of the issues that will be taken up will the security file and the prevention of such infiltrations," he added.

I hope he's going over there with a diplomatic can of whoop-ass. Considering the evidence about the Syrian government training terrorists to send to Iraq, maybe that can shouldn't be so diplomatic. When Iraq is back up and running independently, Syria better watch out.
They are ratcheting this up quite fast now, and it is very much a coordinated effort. Sec. Rice was just in Iraq for an unannounced visit, and almost at the same time the stories come out about Syria being the site of an AQ pow-wow last month. Now this.
Iraq should consider this an act of war and since they are an "ally" of the U.S. now, we should step in and erradicate this problem for them.
With the help of the Iraqi army I would hope. This is certainly our problem, but we need Iraqi boots on the ground after the pummeling from the air.
The Iraqi PM better have some good life insurance.
Yeah we "won" the cold war. /sarc

It does seem like it. I really hope Syria takes the hint and knocks this crap off, but given history I'm not particularly hopeful.
Boy Assad is going to have to respond somehow. It will be interesting to see how. He'll concede as little as possible, but he has been known to offer up a Saddam half brother or two. But that's not good enough.
Fourth Rail had something the other day about the Qaim based AQ guys re-locating to the Mosul area. I'll guess they got there by transiting Syria. BTW, that bit of info suggested that Mosul was going to be the next big op.
