U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's chief of staff yesterday acknowledged that scandals involving Iraq, peacekeeping and human rights have hurt the world body, but said any move to freeze or cut U.S. dues would set back the cause of reform.

KJL from NRO's Corner summed this up nicely.
We're corrupt. Give us money!

They must have quite a cash crunch after spending all that money for tsunami relief.

"The option of withholding money immediately sets you off from all of your allies in this fight," Mark Malloch Brown, Mr. Annan's recently appointed chief of staff, told a House International Relations Committee hearing.
"It would be seen as the United States once again acting alone," he said. "
What was it dear old mom used to say about "if evryone jumped off the bridge ... "?
Let's get Mr. Bolton confirmed, and begin our journey out of the black hole that is the UN.

Let's get Mr. Bolton confirmed....Does anyone know when Bolton is coming up for a vote, or is it on hold until the judicial thing is resolved?

Dues? Our government pays the UN with our tax money. That is taxation without representation. That has been known to cause revolutions...

***But Mr. Malloch Brown warned that a lot of the planned reforms would cost money. ***
Pure chutzpah!
So let's see what "reforms" the U.N. could effect if we sent more money. Some of the reforms the U.N. has, in the past, said they needed:
All borders between us and Canada and Mexico must be totally open.
No religion except for one THEY authorize.
Ditch the U.S. Constitution.
SURE, send them more money.

I believe the latter is true.
Last I heard it was scheduled (judicial showdown) for Tuesday, next.
Perhaps our more learned Freepers will advise?

Kofi is a scammer, in a corrupt organization. Let's move them all out of the US.
Where should we send them? So many choices...
I'd also like to see Kofi go on an "explanation tour" to Iraq; make him explain to the people of Iraq why their kids went hungry and without medicine (how many died because of Kofi?) so that his son and others could scam millions from the Oil for Food program.
