Canada's Minority Government Survives Vote

Prime Minister Paul Martin survived a razor-thin vote of confidence Thursday, allowing him to retain power and ending one of Canada's most dramatic political standoffs in decades.

The House of Commons split 152-152 on the measure that served as a confidence motion and it took a vote by the parliament speaker to give the minority government its one-vote victory.

"The margin of tonight's vote is very narrow indeed that is an understatement," said Martin. "We must now move forward in a spirit of cooperation. We ask the opposition to join with us in a renewed effort to make this Parliament work for the people of Canada."

She was never a conservative. Prime Minister Paul Martin sold his soul... and he did not profit to even keep Quebec. The Liberals bought a few months to be sure but at the expense of the country's survival. I hope Martin finds its all worth it... when you are drowning in sleaze, you can't see the things that truly matter.

That will just postpone an election. The longer this drags out the worse it will get for the Liberals.

"Martin's support got a boost Tuesday when Belinda Stronach, a former leadership candidate for the Conservatives, defected to the Liberals. Stronach, 39, former chief executive of car-parts maker Magna International Inc., said she didn't want to force an election less than a year after the last vote. And she was concerned the Conservative link with the Bloc Quebecois would strengthen support for separatism in Quebec. Martin appointed her Minister for Human Resources."

Isn't that outright bribery?

Yes, that's why they refused to recognize the non-confidence vote, and stalled for a week, frantically looking for someone to bribe. They found her(Stronach) She's found her spiritual home, for now,(until some other guy with a bigger caucus comes along.

You got that right - its sad that Canadians have become spineless sheep with terminal herd mentality.

Of course. And Stronach's claim is a load of hooey! It wasn't the Conservatives' alliance with the Bloc that strengthened the separatists in Quebec, it was the Liberals' fraud on the people of a great province in the name of keeping the country united - only it turned out it was meant to line their own pockets. Now Stronach's part of that corrupt cabal. I find it hard to imagine any one now in Quebec or Alberta who wants to remain in Canada. This may be a point of no return for the Dominion.

The Liberals are known by the company they keep. And they've shown for all to see their interests are not one and the same as that of Canada.

Belinda Stronach meet Jim Jeffords.

The enemy within is the most dangerous enemy there is.

Our own enemy at home is just as vile as Stronach.

The likes of Upchuck Mccain, Hagel, Spector, Warner, Murkowski are nothing but traitors.

I expect the collins, snowe, and chafee's of the world to stab us in the back, they are from blue states.

But what warner, murkowski, hagel, mccain are doing is outrageous, they come from the reddest of the reddest states and they are going to weaken their own party and empower the dems.

Murkowski had the gall to say alaskans appreciate her position. We should demand that the gop senate committee not give a dime to any of these traitors. I'd also like to see the party establishment in a close primary campaign against hagel and mccain.

Stronach is such an empty suit.

When she was running for the conservative leadership position she was asked if she supports the Iraq war and she answered yes. Then she was asked why she supports it and she said she would have to ask her advisers about thacht. She made the iraq war out to be some complex unknown policy matter.

Her running for the conservative leadership position and then switching over to the dems is a warning to watch for the chucky hagel's and johnny mac's of the world.

"...so thats why they bought out that conservative MP a few days ago."

And probably many others. When politicians smell blood, it's always feeding time. And in a parliamentary system like Canada's, a vote like this means Martin will be weakened for the duration of his term.

She's likely to suffer a fate similar to Jeffords down here. Nobody trusts a traitor, not even the one who bought that traitor off.

Yes, and here's the dirty history.

The Liberals kept whining saying "What's the problem about waiting one more week to vote?" Well guess what, they needed that week to whore out Belinda and get her vote. It was decisive and offered the Liberals another chance to steal our money.

The more I think about it, the angrier I get. Socialists and thiefs - what's the difference?

Bribery is a part of her dirty dealing family. Magna is the number one subsidy recipient in Canada. Without the subsidy there is no Magna.
