Put an Eye Out (CBS Axes Bunch of Shows)

Put an Eye Out CBS cancels ''Joan of Arcadia,'' ''Judging Amy'' -- The low-rated former hits get the ax, as does the Wednesday edition of ''60 Minutes'' by Mickey O'Connor

Oh, God. It's official. At the unveiling of CBS' fall 2005 lineup Wednesday, the network announced that it has axed Joan of Arcadia, the underdog-that-couldn't, despite last year's Emmy nomination for lead Amber Tamblyn and much critical love. A second-season ratings slump made continuing it not feasible, said CBS chairman Les Moonves, calling it one of his biggest disappointments.

In other cancellation news, a desire to attract a younger demographic has spelled the end for two graying CBS shows: The awards magnet Judging Amy has heard its final sentence, and the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes, which suffered after a story that questioned President Bush's military service proved to be false, will stop production as well.

So what will replace these dearly departed shows? Among the new series that the chatty Moonves held forth on: a comedy about a family of doctors; a drama about FBI profilers; and, er, Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said. From his mouth to... oh, never mind.

Why not just axe the whole network?

The CSI Chicago has been dropped in favor of CSI Joplin. The pilot segment will take place in the Paint Stallion Club. It will have a body turning up after a brawl between drivers from CFI and meth dealers from throughout the county.
Hint. A cattle prod is used.

I never watched any of them either. Tried Joan once and watched it until she met a man in a hosital and said, "You mean they beat you up just because you are gay?"

Cold Case seems to like that kind of theme as well. They covered it twice in three weeks recently. As for Joan of Arcadia, I couldn't get over Mary Steenbergen Danson starring in it.

Even so it was in Stephen King, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins territory -- watch out!

I move we FReepers, from now on refer to Les Moonves as Les Moonbat.

Whose with me...?

Judging who? Never watched a minute of it. 60 Minutes? Hah! Joan was good. Better last year. The parents were the drag. Whenever the father went to work, I did the dishes. The mother (liberal hag Mary Stinkbergen) was awful. How she gets any work is beyond me. Dump those two and the quality doubles. Is she still married to Ted 'mammy' Danson?

There was talk of a reality based CSI-DC, but it was voted down when the Network executives figured out that they would never solve any crimes.

Maybe CBS can do a "CSI - Petticoat Junction".

First case: figure out what's causing the town water supply to faintly taste like tuna.

Actually, the saga of downstate Illinois gangsters of the 20s, 30s, and 40s (the Charlie Birger [the last convict to be executed at the gallows in Illinois] gang, the Shelton Brothers, et al) is quite a fascinating tale. Add the KKK, militant union miners, overbearing mine owners and their scab workers, and crooked cops and politicos into the mix, and it rivaled anything the Chicago mob scene had to offer. Capone got all the media attention but he wanted nothing to do with the downstate gangs.

I agree with you, but it's big (about Judging Amy) with the gals at the beauty parlor.

Joan of Arcadia - no mention of Christ - I wonder what God the gal was was talking to?

Well, considering that in the very first show "God" told her that he was known by many names, including Allah, I guess it was the pc god.

Plus they put probably the worst actor I've ever seen on TV (although goodlooking) on as Amy's last boyfriend, the one she was pregnant by until, of course, she lost it...

okay, I watched until 3 weeks ago when I went cold turkey upon learning she was going to (gag) run for office.

Anyway this clueless boyfriend is Dixie Chick Natalie Maines hubby.

Then we have Tyne Daley, poster girl for late life hippies with grey ponytails (until she finally cut it off).

I wish she was conservative; I could like her. Although, it's a bit of a stretch for all the men to fall for her...she's very fat and has that dowager's hump. Couldn't they do better with her wardrobe to hide it?

Hey, all right. I'm sounding like an afficianado of the show, but I quit. I swear I did! I won't miss it.
