Put an Eye Out CBS cancels ''Joan of Arcadia,'' ''Judging Amy'' -- The low-rated former hits get the ax, as does the Wednesday edition of ''60 Minutes'' by Mickey O'Connor
Oh, God. It's official. At the unveiling of CBS' fall 2005 lineup Wednesday, the network announced that it has axed Joan of Arcadia, the underdog-that-couldn't, despite last year's Emmy nomination for lead Amber Tamblyn and much critical love. A second-season ratings slump made continuing it not feasible, said CBS chairman Les Moonves, calling it one of his biggest disappointments.
In other cancellation news, a desire to attract a younger demographic has spelled the end for two graying CBS shows: The awards magnet Judging Amy has heard its final sentence, and the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes, which suffered after a story that questioned President Bush's military service proved to be false, will stop production as well.
So what will replace these dearly departed shows? Among the new series that the chatty Moonves held forth on: a comedy about a family of doctors; a drama about FBI profilers; and, er, Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said. From his mouth to... oh, never mind.
Lemme guess:
"CSI: Champagne-Urbana"
"Survivor: Sri Lanka" and
"JAG: Iraq"?
If that gets the Sci-Fi channel to show the originals more often, then I'm all for it.

Read a little about Peoria....high crime, resting and planning place for radicals and Al Queda.
The article mentions Jennifer Love Hewitt and yet there are no pics...
My wife will be upset when she finds out! She watched both Amy & Arcadia.
Network TV shows in general suck big time. From the inspid sitcoms to the mind numbing stupidity of the reality shows there hasn't been anything to seriously watch in years.
Looks like Lifetime, WE, and Oh! have a few more shows to add to the one zillionth airing of the Golden Mares and The Franny.
Allow me...
Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said.
You know its getting out of hand when they start "CSI-Peoria"
The movie Fargo was darkly funny. Can you imagine CSI-Fargo, yeah yeah fer sure.
Who cares if it was quality or not. A hand full of LIBERALS who campainged against Bush are out work! Its a good thing! :)
I'm gl;ad to see Dan Rather's 60 Minutes II hit the fan...it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
The folks at The Sci Fi Channel run a great website. Not only does it cover and promote shows and events tied to the cable network, but it truly reaches out to science fiction fans with genre-related info that may not be directly related to their broadcasts. One of the cool things at their site along those lines is the Events Calendar. It lists dates for SciFi channel events like premieres of special shows and so forth, but also lists film openings, convention dates, book releases...and now DVD release dates as well, it seems.
Many of the DVD's you'll find on their master list are for releases we've already talked about, including the dates of all four seasons of Enterprise. The big surprise, though, are some end-of-the-year release dates for 5 highly anticipated sets from Univesal Studios Home Video!
Kolchak, The Night Stalker is one of those titles, and the SciFi.com events calendar is reporting a 10/04/2005 release date for it!
We tried to get Universal to comment on this, but they would neither confirm nor deny that schedule. What came up is that, if this DID represent the current plans for that set's release, we have to realize that plans can always change. Nothing that far off is set in stone, and we think our readers here at TVShowsOnDVD are among the best on the 'Net at realizing that. Still, it's good to know that it's that much on the radar, and even if that doesn't turn out to be the exact date, it seems to be coming!
This timing makes sense, if they want to tie the DVD set into the launch of the new show.
Here's some more info about the new one: http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-33125/
Don't forget Cabot Cove, Maine. On a per capita basis that little village had the country's worst murder count.
My life loves Judging Amy too. I have to leave the room when it comes on. I can't stand that show.
LOL. Yeah Fargo was definitely dark and funny. But I got chills just seeing all that snow....and I'm used to snow.
Bring back Mannix!
