The American spirit is alive and well: A landmark study released yesterday from a New Jersey medical school finds that the majority of us are overwhelmingly optimistic about the future, even if catastrophe looms on the horizon.
A sampling: 82 percent of Americans ages 18 to 24 feel optimistic about their futures; 82 percent of those ages 25 to 44 do so as well; and 75 percent of those ages 45 to 64 and 64 percent of those 65 or older agree. Only 15 percent to 22 percent of the respondents say they have grown more pessimistic over the past five years.
The public's response flabbergasted the pollsters.
"What amazed us most was their determined optimism, even as they showed great concern about bad things happening in the world," said Dr. Donald Louria of the Department of Preventive Medicine & Community Health at the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, which conducted the study.
The study of 2,000 adults in four distinct age groups was conducted for the school by McLaughlin & Associates throughout April.

I'll be first: Bushs' fault.
We are still lacking their Doom and Gloom, despite our esteemed news media and academia trying their best to instill it in our psyche.
Boo hoo, what will they do next to undermine our country?
what ! you mean the democrates have been spitting into the wind all this time?
50 years of doom and gloom the sky is falling predictions and they STILL haven't managed to bring down the American spirit....
hehe stupid libs
''We found this relative lack of concern surprising, given the overwhelming scientific consensus that global warming is occurring now, and that if unchecked, could be disastrous,'' said Dr. Cheryl Kennedy, a psychiatrist with the school.
Speaking for myself (and as a resident of the state of Frozen Tundra), I'm happier n' a pig in poop to be living in an era of global warming considering that I only have to drive about 4 miles to see the glacial deposits of the alternative.
Heh? At least we have ID'd the idiots amongst us that don't have a clue. Now to completely discredit the Left as the lying Sociopaths they are!
And if people are optimistic in Newark, imagine how positively giddy we must be in other parts of the country! Laissez les bon temps roulez!
If you can't make it in America with hard work and optimism, then I can see why one would be pessimistic. Academia is full of such folks. Hence the "suprise" at these results.
I think the "surprise" also reflects elitism ... how could people who work blue-collar jobs, live in the suburbs and shop at Wal-mart be optimistic? Don't they realize how pitiful their lives are?

That 15 to 22% is the base of the Democratic party. LOL!
Indeed. How can people possibly be happy living in a 2000 square foot house, drive a used pickup, go to church, have BBQs on the weekend, beers in the tavern, and raise children. It's impossible, they say.
Note to the media: we must INTENSIFY our efforts to make people feel downtrodden and depressed! From now on, instead of news, we'll just run an hour of footage of kittens being tortured every night!
No fooling. If all they have to obsess about is global warming then I'd say that indicates a level of unprecedented prosperity and yet one more reason to be optimistic.
Care to elaborate? Or would this expose your agenda?
I guess them pollsters had their beebers bakerds and stuned themselves.
Ah, I see he did elaborate later in the article, he's drunk the enviro kool-aid.
"Annoy a Liberal, work hard and be happy!"
