Well, this is gonna be a challenge--I have only seen the first 3 Star Wars--and that was because my husband insisted. Sorry. I am a tear-jerker movie type myself.

But it will be fun seeing how everyone else remembers them. I just remember Harrison Ford being really hyper!

The Six Star Wars Movies

Star Wars 4 – 1977 -The New Hope 93%
Star Wars 5 – 1980 - The Empire Strikes Back 98%
Star Wars 6 – 1983 - Return of the Jedi 80%
Star Wars 1 – 1999 - The Phantom Menace 65%
Star Wars 2 – 2002 - Attack of the Clones 62%
Star Wars 3 – 2005 – Revenge of the Sith 84%

The percentage at the end is the critics review from Rotten Tomatoes compilation. The titles are "hotlinks" to the movie official site.

Wonderful post DollyCali...I'm a SciFi fan too. I'm going to try and go to the mantinee tomorrow. Can't wait to see this one. I wish holywierd would do Dragon Riders of Pern or the Darkover series. Both would be wonderful SciFi movies.

Doing Our Part

Read:
2 Kings 20:1-7

I have heard your prayer . . . ; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord. —2 Kings 20:5

Bible In One Year: Psalm 115-118

coverA runner at a school track meet crossed the finish line just ahead of his nearest rival. A bystander, noticing that the winner's lips were moving during the last couple of laps, wondered what he was saying. So he asked him about it. "I was praying," the runner answered. Pointing to his feet, he said, "I was saying, 'You pick 'em up, Lord, and I'll put 'em down.'" That athlete prayed for God's help, but he also did what he could to answer his own prayer.

When we ask God for help, we must be willing to do whatever we can, using whatever means He gives. When Hezekiah heard that he was going to die, he prayed for a miracle, and God promised to extend his life 15 years. Then Isaiah gave instructions to place a lump of figs on the troublesome boil (2 Kings 20:5-7). God did the healing, but He used human effort and natural means.

A couple of children were walking to school one morning when it suddenly dawned on them that unless they really hurried they were going to be late. One of them suggested that they stop and pray that they wouldn't be tardy. "No," the other replied, "let's pray while we run as fast as we can."

When we ask the Lord to do something, we must also be ready to do our part. —Richard De Haan

Points To Ponder
How does the truth of today's article apply to illness?
To receiving a job promotion? To social evils?
To final exams? To increasing faith?

Pray as if everything depends on God; work as if everything depends on you.

As for Lucas being a household word, I have to share with you this true story from a couple of weeks ago. A man in our church is a documentary-maker and aspiring movie mogul. His twin 4-year-old daughters went with us on a group field trip to one of the Smithsonian museums in D.C., and one of the leaders asked if they knew who the man was in the picture (of Washington crossing the Delaware). "Yeah! That's George Lucas!" one of them cried. ;o)

Good devotional Rus (BTW, thanks for popcorn)

Pinging a couple others.. sometimes when we are going thru difficult times we (I) have a difficult time realizing that perhaps God is communicating with me.. Are all people "hurts" ,bad situations, kid problems; love "issues"; ill health matters, troubling work etc random acts of nature or the finely woven tapestry of God? or somewhere in between? .. always difficult. Sometimes I get to wrapped up in the storm of life to hear the gentle voice of God.

'Morning, Dolly. Hope you have a grand day at the movies.

I shall never forget seeing the first(fourth) Star Wars movie in 1977. I don't know how many of you remember the movies made in the '70s. They were all morose, depressing, preachy, no right or wrong/good or bad, nihilist, all were just plain awful. Then along came Star Wars and just in time!

I had had thyroid cancer 5 years before and had surgery to remove the tumor then. Now, in 1977, after being married just a year, another tumor on the remnants of the thyroid had appeared. The day before surgery I was a bit down so Mr.Lakeside suggested going to a movie. It was Star Wars. It was total escapist, total fun, and for that short while I totally forgot about hospital, needles, knives and pain.(the tumor turned out to be benign. yay!)

Also, unbeknownst to us I was pregnant with our first son. Now, I don't know if the old wives tale of 'imprinting' on the unborn is true but that son is an enthusiastic fan of Star Wars to this day. And yes, we had all the toys and action figures and even the Star Wars Legos.

As for me, I'm going to wait for the dvd as my 'going to the movie' days are pretty much over. No problem, we've got a big screen t.v. with a very good home theater surround sound system. :o)
