I will never, ever, ever vote for either one of those fools......for anything, including POTUS.

That would probably be the smartest move for him-Bush will still be President in 06, I think Tom Osborne is going to run for Governor, he's a Pubbie--

Yep, you convinced me, Nelson should turn RED---ahh, Univ. of Neb. colors are RED and white---

I know that has been posted before and it somewhat correct but I do not believe it is exactly correct. There is a little piece missing. It's one of the great problems of writing "history". I will try to find the more complete text and post it.

If for some reason, I have to eat crow, my punishment should be Hershey's Homemade Chocolate Fudge. I absolutely abhor the stuff. :-)

The two possible dealings I've heard concern allowing 3-4 of the Jutices to have a vote on condition we don't use the 'nuclear option" reported by Mort's Roll Call, and then reportedly from CNN the possibility Dems would allow a floor vote on all provided Reps voted certain Justices down. IMO, the only reason a deal has not been reached is because both bases refuse to yield.

I find it difficult to pity them for cowardice. That is essentially what this is. If they were really against the vote, they would come out and say so. Risk defeat at the polls.

I understand why Reps run people like Chafee, but at a certain point we need something in return. Otherwise we are financing a campaign for Democrats. Chafee, for example, has stood in opposition to the war, tax cuts, said he was voting against the President, has been weak on Bolton and will vote against the end of the filibuster. That money that is used to elect Chafee could be spent elsewhere in a tight contest where a more conservative Republican could emerge.

I saw something on the thread today that made me feel better about Frist---

someone posted that a democrat made a wise-crack about Frist "ripping a heart out"--and that he got that because someone asked him if he could "handle the stress" of this nomination process, and he mentioned that as a heart surgeon, one had to be able to handle stress...

When he compares this to heart surgery, then I figure he is in the right frame of mind NOT to fall for any of the dems foolishness or the rino backstabbing!

Is his name currently on the list of 5 or 6 that won't support the constitutional option? I don't have a solid handle on who is on the list now. McCain, Chafee, Snowe, Collins, Warner...

You're right about Specter though...but somehow I expect from him what we are getting so far. When and if he votes against the option, I will consider it backstabbing.

The nominated Justices have enough votes to win confirmation if a floor vote is allowed. The rumored deal (which could be gossip) is that these 'moderate' republicans would secretly agree to vote against certain Justices named by the Democrats. In return the Dems would agree to a floor vote. This allows the Dems to appear reasonable, but the Justices lose the vote.

Remember, our argument is that they deserve an up or down vote on the floor. the reason the Dems object is that they would be confirmed. Republicans voting against in a pre-arranged deal would result in Dems demands being met and embarrass the president, Frist and Republicans in general. In return I assume they recieve decent MSM coverage and who knows what else.

It may or may not be true but was circulated by CNN.

The Democrats with political sense, i.e. the Clintons. are hoping for the leftist leadership to fall flat on its face in 2006. If it does then, like the reconstituted Nixon in 1968, the rehabbed Clintons can ride to victory in 2008.

Like 1994 and 1996 all over again.

Most of the people on this thread seem to think that Specter will vote for the constitutional option, then may vote against some of the judges...

But, I wouldn't put it past him to be working behind the scenes to cut a deal with his good friend Patrick Leahy!

Specter? Backstab the GOP?
What a surprise.

Those options have been floating around for days, at least. And the vote trading crap goes on all the time, no reason it wouldn't happen as a matter of routine on nominees. It stinks, but that's politics.

I find it difficult to pity them for cowardice.

Yeah. Me too, actually. I was mocking them. I think they are in over their heads, and I think they are self-absorbed jerks.

I understand why Reps run people like Chafee, but at a certain point we need something in return. Otherwise we are financing a campaign for Democrats. I stopped giving money to a party years ago. I give to individual candidates and issue advocacy groups that I think are effective, e.g. Swiftees, NRA.

I'm hanging it up now, folks. This has been both enlightening and fun, and I could not have gotten through this day w/out you. Tomorrow is another day "that creeps in this petty pace" toward getting our judges confirmed. Good night!

(I hope the Cabal of Cowards have nightmares about losing their next elections.)

That is what we call a SELL OUT

If that rumor is true .. then I say

LET THEM GO ON RECORD VOTING AGAINST THEM .. WE ARE WATCHING!

HEY RINO'S BRING IT ON .. I DARE YOU TO PULL A STUNT LIKE THAT !!!

I tend to give individually as well, though I'll make an exception if the GOP ends this Filibuster to reward leadership.

Agreed about your characterization of these Senators. :-)

Oh, jeez, that would be AWFUL---it would be one thing for the senators like Snowe and Collins to vote against the Byrd/Constitutional/Crap option because of some kind of policy disagreement, but if they agree to do it THAT way, they would be voting, possibly, against a woman nominee...

And both of the women are very qualified...and....

I can't begin to understand all this, because I don't THINK like a politician....I think like a mommy and a grandmother. You know, don't tell lies, be kind, share your toys...you get to be the Boss today, your brother gets to be the Boss tomorrow...

I don't know if it has basis in Truth, understand, but that is why I lost my temper earlier in the thread and started calling out the RINO's. LOL

If there is any truth to this item they have just been outed. Now, if they vote against and a nominee loses I'm going to be suspicious it was part of a deal.

Especially if these RINOs don't get up on the senate floor and speak about WHY they are going to vote against the judge.

If they hide out in their office and then just come out and vote against, without stating why, then WE KNOW WHY!!!

I wish we could get in the peanut gallery and start booing them if they do that...now isn't that mature thinking, huh?

Booing them is what they've reduced us to. I say bring back the old days of tomatoes, rotten lettuce and pitchforks. That's what's missing today, true fear of the villagers.
