Tidbit from WWII area. Coffee was rationed and/or hard to get. My mom said they ground it extra fine hoping to squeeze out a few extra cups.

During WWII when coffee was rationed, FDR advised Americans to use the coffee grounds twice. I always wondered if he followed his own advice. (He was a dem, you know.)

I'm not sure if your being sarcastic. The Electoral College was set up for a very good reason and it worked just as it should have. If Gore had won his own state (7 votes), he wouldn't have needed Florida's 20 some votes. I was imagining people staying away from the polls in droves in order for their favored candidate to get the least votes. >>Like a race where the last person wins..

Fortas was not filibustered during his initial appointment to the circuit courts. He was filibustered during his elevation to the Supreme Court.

Fortas was on the Supreme Court of the United States for 3 years, 7 months, 10 days. He resigned from the Court on May 14, 1969.

The Senate was likely averse to elevating Fortas from Associate to Chief Justice. It is questionable if a slim, simple majority would have confirmed his elevation.

and he owes his Senate seat tot he fact that the Dems wouldn't report his nomination to be a federal judge out of the SJC comittee..so he went back home and beat them at their own game..

Sessions is my senator...in fact he lives right here in my hometown. I see him at high school baseball games. He IS a really good guy.

His history is almost exactly the same as Bill Pryor's. When he was Atty Gen of Alabama, Bush Sr. (or was it Reagan?) nominated him to the circuit court. The Dems gave him the "deeply held personal beliefs" treatment. They defeated him in the judiciary committee.

Thus, when he was swept in with the GOP majority in 1994, it delicious when he was given a seat on that very committee. We loved it!

Where is Senator Jefferson Smith, when we need him?
Whatever happened to the good ole fashion filibuster?
Start reading the phone book, or poetry,
these people know nothing of tradition.

"That is what came to my mind!"

ABC news already said that the Dems are going to filibuster. Well they said that the Republicans are going to try for a rules change. That cannot happen without the filibuster so it is a safe assumption they will.

I bought my Mom a one cup, auto turn off pot after I found out she burnt the coffee pot on the gas stove. (She forgot about it.) The coffee temp is perfect, far from "burning hot". I recommend it for every Senior Citizen. (If you can find them)
