Current Premier (same as Governor) is Gordon Campbell, a libertarian-conservative running in the BC "Liberal" Party (they are not really Liberal). Likely to be re-elected.

Key opponent: Carole James, NDP (socialist)

Thanks! My prediction is 'Liberal' 55, NDP 23, Green 1. (There are 79 seats in the house, 40 are needed for a majority. The 'Liberals' are our allies here, as they are really Conservatives under a Liberal name)

Liberal used to be a respectable term, representing a belief in Free Trade.

I'd put them conservative for fiscal, "undeclared" or perhaps 'moderate' (yeah, a loaded term, but I think people here know what I mean by it) for social policy.

Like the old PC party (federally, and the past Harris government in Ontario), they have their focus squarely where it should be: on the money.

And the NDP, as always, craves communism.

Oh, I haven't seen any BC political ads; has the NDP dredged up the Hawaii DUI in any?

Not that I know of; the focus has been on his "anti-union" record

Liberals won but the drunk voters in BC gave the NDP a large number of seats. Yikes!

I voted BC Liberal to keep the NDP out. To me it is a parallel to the 2004 US election. John Kerry was a great evil that needed to be kept out of power. The NDP period in BC was the darkest period of BC history. The BC Liberals could have eaten kittens. I still would have voted for them to keep the Marxists from power.

Good for you - at least the BC 'Liberals' are nothing like the federal Liberals, they are actually conservatives under a Liberal banner...
