If Melanie Morgan of KSFO radio in San Francisco builds it, they will come. And come they did, by the hundreds, to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., from April 24-27 for the "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" grassroots campaign against illegal immigration.
[SNIP]
Taking a leadership roll on the issues of illegal immigration, securing our borders and national security, Sen. George Allen, R-Va., made several trips to radio row in order to broadcast his message across the country. He stressed the importance of securing our borders for national security and of stopping illegal immigration, which is draining state coffers.
Allen explained that when the government doesn't do its job, then it's left for citizens to do the work, which is what Allen felt was happening down on the border. He said it was the obligation of the government to provide secure borders and enforce our laws against illegal immigration not ignore the fundamental responsibilities for which our government was formed and leave protection of our borders to the people.

George Allen will get more mileage out of this issue in '08 than Hillary or Tancredo if he really gets out front on it.

Hillary already came out against REAL ID, she's full of hot air on this. The Repubs have a real chance to hit this topic hard which will play very well out here in Middle America.

About time one of ours got out in front, enough of this a$$ kissing for a few votes. ALLEN 2008

Allen 'gets' it - he'd make a fine president, hope he runs in 2008. He's not just a Senator, but a former Governor and he's not afraid of the Beast, either.

Yep! Whoever gets out in front about stopping illegal immigration is smart. This issue is exploding amongst all the states now, it's not just a border state problem. If Allen will stop it and fix it, I'll vote for him.

I said the same thing on my blog recently (www.sanityanyone.blogspot.com) - Allen can win the Presidency on this issue alone if he takes it as seriously as the vast majority of the country is taking it.
Ehrlich, across the river in MD, sadly is not so intelligent on the issue, like most in both parties.

You can say that again.
I don't know who is going to ride this bull, but whomever it is should be a shoo in.

And unlike most girly men metrosexuals on the left and RINOs in the senate he knows what a pass block is

Me too.
And .. he made a comment that was barely noticed, he said, "this is no time for us to cower in the corner" - I was stunned! Whoa! A repub with a spine who actually says what we're thinking.
If he's legit and not just talking through his hat - I think he might develop into a good candidate. Time will tell.

Well .. Melanie Morgan didn't "build it" - Roger Hedgecock did - and I know because I've been on one of his "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" trips. Melanie is associated with an organization called Move America Forward.
Roger's been doing these trips for years - and I don't think we should be ignoring that.

If Allen really pushes this issue and gets the Republican nomination, he could conceivably win big over another Dim weenie, unlike Jorge's narrow margins over ultraliberals Gore and Kerry.

First thing first.. He has to get relected to the Senate in 06... No, he doesn't. It's best if he retires the seat and focuses on building up momentum (and money) for 2008.
Why campaign for a seat that he may have to give up within 2 years anyway?
To: Mulch
He has "electable" written all over him. I don't see anyone else in the early field I'd prefer.
