NewsWeek Flushes the Quran in Toilet Story
Despite Retraction, Criminal Liability Cannot be Ruled Out
By E.F. Winslow Posted 5-17-2005
After several Sorry-for-the-outcome-but-we-are-sticking-to-the-story quasi-apologies, Newsweek has finally made a formal retraction, saying that it erred in the May 9 report that claimed Guantanamo Bay interrogators had desecrated the Quran by flushing one down the toilet. In the upcoming May 23 issue, an article from the editor Mark Whitaker leads with an incredulous statement that demonstrates that his staff is very close to understanding that there can be ramifications to writing inflammatory articles. He queried: Did a report in Newsweek set off a wave of deadly anti-American riots in Afghanistan? That's what numerous news accounts suggested last week as angry Afghans took to the streets to protest reports, linked to us, that U.S. interrogators had desecrated the Qur'an while interrogating Muslim terror suspects. Thats news accounts suggested?

Charge all involved with this story with involuntary manslaughter. Send the message to all so-called journalist that is they betray the US with false allegations and it leads to death they will be prosecuted under the full extent of the law.
Hang 'em High!
do you have a link for this?
Thanks,
SB
wishful thinking.
Treason, maybe, but not manslaughter. Newspeak didn't kill anyone; they just printed lies that aided the enemy in time of war. The people who rioted, et al, were the ones who killed people.
Cordially,
I can't wait for the ARAB lawsuits against Newsweek...
I mean...Newspeak.
I thought you meant charges against Karl Rove for conspiracy to make Dems MSM look bad. It's obvious that the government official who leaked to Newsweak was Rove or one of his minions in the VRWC.
Newsweek has done wrong. But what is more wrong is the fact that terrorists are promoting violence, death and a state of fear for any who dare even suggest that someone offended a sacred belief.
I think now is the perfect time to hold Newsweak and the MSM accountable for their actions. While Newsweak did not physically kill the people in Afghanistan, they are responsible for causing the rioting. An apology and a retraction does not cut it. The need to be firmly reprimanded for such irresponsible journalism.
Why doesn't the government just start disappearing the liberal media. After all, the Constitution is a 'living breathing document' and if we apply the same infringements on the 2nd Amendment to the first...
The 1st Amendment only applies to state run media, it's a collective right. I don't think any foreign media should be allowed in this country either, except the sports section. Journalists that don't work for state run media should have to pass a background check before publishing articles. /sarcasm
I was thinking the exact same thing!
I don't know about that... If someone yells FIRE in a crowed theater, and 1. There is no fire, and 2. The resulting stampede crushes 16 people, I do think that that negligent manslaughter charges would be brought forward. Along with inciting a riot.
That said we need someone in the Justice Dept with a set, to bring forth an investigation.
Which I wouldn't hold my breath for ......
If I were some Islamo-fascist militant, I might want to invite a Newsweek or WaPo reporter over to my hideout for an exclusive "up close and personal" interview, from which they will never return.
The deaths are 1/2 Newsweek's fault and 1/2 due to the Muslim world's very low regard for human life.
Ping!
Sam,
Isn't this what we got flamed for yesterday? LOL
