BOSTON -- Imagine getting to drink free beer and watch TV -- all in the name of science.
Dr. Scott Lukas says he didn't have any trouble finding volunteers for his research project on a Chinese herb and alcohol.
He set up a makeshift apartment in a lab at McLean Hospital in a Boston suburb. He outfitted his research pad with a TV, recliner and refrigerator stocked with beer.
Lukas then recruited 14 men and women in their 20s, all heavy drinkers.
They drank brewskis and watched the tube while researchers monitored their alcohol consumption. Lukas said those who also took the herb kudzu drank nearly half as much as those who didn't.
Lukas said the research could be useful in curbing binge drinking. He speculated that kudzu increases blood alcohol levels and speeds up its effects, so the subjects needed fewer beers to feel drunk.
The study is published in this month's issue of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
This is scary.
How many of the party schools across the South are literally covered and surrounded by kudzu?
About time they find a use for that scourge of a plant.
Hmmm...and this stuff grows so fast in North Carolina.
Kudzu is very good for you herbally speaking.

Another drunk driver succumbs to the weed at UNC-Chapel Hill.
LOL
At last science has found a way to eradicate the scourge of the South. This vine will literally grow as much as 1 foot/day, but now drunks will be hacking in down at the same rate......Ah, the miracle of science.
Looks like a scene from Creep Show.

Bride of Kudzu!
I make kudzu jelly out of the blossoms. you could have toast, kudzu jelly and beer for breakfast.
....well, I guess we know what we can use in our fight to take over the poppy/heroin crop...
If you like the way junkyarddawg thinks, you might be a redneck.
Sincerely,
A. Redneck
I don't think this is a good idea at all. People will be skunk drunk, crashing into people, killing and maiming them but not blow over, therefore getting away with it. Like pot heads.
My hometown of Holly Springs MS have a Kudzu festival every July!
