Why the surprise about bad writing? Lucas has no ear for dialogue and never has. He makes James Cameron look like David Mamet.
Has there ever been a worse dialog writer for successful films than George Lucas? I saw the original Star Wars a couple years after it came out and was amazed that a film that was so bad could gather such a cult-like devotion.
Why do characters in David Mamet movies often sound like they are reading their lines? It could just be bad acting but it happens so often that Mamet must want it this way. But for what reason?
I read in an article last week about rumors that Lucas had help on the dialogue from an experienced screenwriter.
If that is true, wouldn't you just love to read the original script? Just what you could tolerate, of course.
Star Wars are the most overrated gaggle of movies ever made. There is almost nothing which makes sense or is of much interest in any of them. Only the first Star Trek movie can compete for the title of Dumbest Movies EVER.
And I like Science fiction movies. None of these come close to War of the Worlds or Forbidden Planet for starters.
Mamet?
He has high points but can be damned stilted (The Winslow Boy)
His wife is quite handsome though.
(both big lefties sadly)
