A Chicago woman was charged today with first-degree murder in the weekend hanging death of her 4-year-old son in their Northwest Side home, CLTV reported.
The Cook County medical examiner's office initially declared accidental the Saturday afternoon death of Jaqueir Dancy, but police this morning reclassified the incident as a homicide and charged the youth's mother, authorities said.
Nicole Harris, 23, of the 2000 block of North LaPorte Avenue, is in custody pending a bond hearing in Cook County Criminal Court, police said.
The boy's parents found Jaqueir on the floor next to a bunk bed shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
He was still alive when he was transported to Resurrection Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after 6 p.m. at the hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.
An autopsy Sunday returned a finding of accidental death, but police subsequently reclassified the case as a homicide. Their reasons for doing so were not immediately available.
The state Department of Children and Family Services received a call to its hotline about the boy's death Saturday night, WGN-AM 720 reported. What the caller told DCFS was not disclosed.
The agency reportedly had no prior contact with the family.

CHICAGO - A woman was charged today with strangling her 4-year-old son after he disobeyed her instruction to stay home while she left to do laundry, police said.
Nicole Harris, 23, was charged with murder in the Saturday death of Jaquari Dancy. She remained in custody in lieu of $1 million bond.
Prosecutors said Harris left the boy and his 5-year-old brother home alone as she did the laundry. She discovered the boy outside when she returned about 45 minutes later, beat him with a belt and sent him to his room, prosecutors said.
When he would not stop crying, she wrapped a sheet from the top bunk of a bunk bed around his neck and strangled him until he stopped moving, then returned to the coin-operated laundry, according to prosecutors.
"She became angry at the child for being outside and ended up killing him," police Officer Patrice Harper said.
The boy's parents reported finding Jaquari on the floor next to a bunk bed, police said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital about two hours later.
Investigators originally thought the death was a hanging because part of the sheet was still on the top bunk, but Harris told them she strangled the boy, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state's attorney
Dude that was racist to the extreme.
Perhaps it was, but it was also 100% correct!
Ask the people who mock and ridicule folks who call for morality in our society. There are a lot of them on Free Republic.
I am just sick.....
Paul is actually referring to fallen Christians in that verse. The point he is making is that those who once embraced Christ then turned away become the most wicked of the wicked, and the most vile of the vile.
My Dad ran a bus ministry. He had many faults but he would get up at the crack of dawn to go door to door asking parents if their kids could come to church and learn about Jesus.
If there is one thing I look back on and respect him for that is it.
It made a difference and his reward was waiting.
Moral relativism - "Thou shalt not murder *"
* - note the use of murder does not include termination of a child while in the womb or removal of life-support from those who are inconvenient
Well, it beats Anferny.
"Dude that was racist to the extreme."
No. Culturally insensitive, not racist.
Had it been a picture of a white meth addict, I would have done it like this.
"Whas rong wiff killen a foryereole? I dun kilt a buncha dem in da woom!"
Does that make me an anti-white racist?
Someone told me that Mrs. Hardaway was aiming for "Anthony."
I refuse to believe that the poor woman is that stupid, to miss the mark so widely.
We all ask "Is it getting worse or do we just notice it more", but regardless, it is frightening. I do know He hardens our hearts when we turn our backs on Him. Even more reason to hold on to Him and His Word even tighter. So many are saying these are the birth pangs that He told us would come.
First of all the two children slashed to death by good ole Dad did not live in Chicago, the two slashed to death by good ole Mom the week before did not live in Chicago, Richard Speck did not live in Chicago just dropped in to murder a few girls on his way elsewhere, JWGacy did not live in Chicago. And Big Al was a New City import not even a native.
So you are giving us undue credit for murders committed elsewhere and having to go back forty years in one instance. There are plenty of actual Chicago based murderers to keep our standing.
Surely you will be comforted by the realization that none of those killings you referenced were done by guns.
"I refuse to believe that the poor woman is that stupid..."
I don't know. I remember my wife showing me an item about a woman who named her daughter Placenta. Overheard the nurse in the delivery room use the word and just liked the sound of it. I'm assuming that it was the BABY that she kept?

Um, eeeeew. ;)
I haven't seen one person on FR ridicule any one calling for morality in our society much less a lot of them.
Like that nutcase that stoned her kids? What did she get? Nuthouse for life??
Or that lady that chopped her babies arms off?? Yeah, Texas is real hard on baby killers. NOT.
Dang it. I have heavy fingers today.
