-- Illegal Aliens should be rounded up and deported.
LONEGAN NEWS CONFERENCE TO PROTEST DRIVING PRIVILEGE LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS
LODI -- Bogota Mayor and GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Steve Lonegan will hold a news conference at 12 noon, Monday, May 16, 2005 to protest proposed driving privilege licenses so illegal aliens can drive cars legally.
WHERE? Outside Lodi DMV, 8 Mill Street (off Garibaldi Ave.), Lodi
WHEN? Noon, TODAY, Monday, May 16, 2005.
WHAT? Lonegan will also urge State Republican Chairman Tom Wilson to withdraw his support for the driving privilege drivers license for illegal aliens as expressed in a press release:
Lonegan will also urge the other six Republican candidates to join him in opposition to this legislation.
WHY? Lonegan has been outspoken in opposition to illegal immigration and especially providing welfare benefits and other government services to those in this country illegally. Illegal aliens should be rounded up and deported, Lonegan has said. We should not be giving them drivers licenses, driving privilege cards or anything else besides a one-way ticket to the border.

We, in NJ, have one candidate for governor who has been consistent and unequivocal in his demands that the federal and state governments enforce our immigration rather than ignore them
I await some statements from the rest of the Republican candidates

Hey Travis,
Nice update to the Mexifornia license. Makes it much more relevant than the old Sombrero picture.
Aliens to this country can already drive legally with an International Driver's licence, issued by the Department of Transportation.
Any alien's claiming they need a valid US license OTHER than the Int DL intend on using it for criminal purposes.

Travis, are you forgetting that these are "illegals" we are talking about? If they aren't going to apply to come here legally, why would you think they would apply for an international license through DOT? I don't think so!
re: "criminal purposes"... illegals are already criminals. They have broken our immigration laws.

Our government doesn't care about ANY laws, when applied to illegal aliens. I mean, the mayor of Denver can knowingly employ illegal aliens in his restauarant, and then have the chutzpah to attend the funeral, after his employee shot a Denver police officer in the back and killed him.

Scenario:
A licensed Citizen of New Jersey, with car insurance, is hit by an illegal alien who has this proposed "driving privilege card", and minimum insurance on his vehicle. The LEO on the scene calls the accident a 50/50, i.e. he can't tell who's at fault.
Result:
Licensed NJ citizen has to pay for his medical bills and car repair bills up to his deductible.
Licensed NJ citizen is then sued by illegal alien, who with the "driving privilege card" law, has clear standing in the NJ court system. Licensed NJ citizen is found responsible, and has a civil judgment against him, reaching several tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Licensed NJ citizen possibly has to now pay for the recently increased and extended "bad drivers' surcharge" imposed by the state yearly, for five years.
Licensed NJ citizen has his car insurance company drastically increase his insurance rates for a short time, and then is abruptly dropped by the company.
Licensed NJ citizen is then forced to shop for a new car insurance company that will write business in the increased risk class, costing NJ licensed driver several thousands dollars more per year, for at least three years, in car insurance premiums.
Illegal alien with a big wad of cash from the settlement, doesn't pay withholding tax, and returns to home country, a very rich person.
The law in NJ states all cars must have a minimum amount of car insurance to get license tags. As of right now, there is no way for illegals to acquire car insurance, outside of getting a NJ driver's license through legal channels (intl' college students, business exec on extended assignments etc.)
Illegals are driving in NJ currently, without licenses, and the liability is shifted onto the car owner's car insurance.
If illegals are giving the "driving privilege" law, will mandatory insurance requirements be included? My guess is the insurance companies will demand it, and common sense dictates it's inclusion. And worse, the trial lawyers will lobby for it, and use illegals as cash cows in civil suits.
Every few years, a ring of insurance fraudsters are arrested in NJ, they target expensive cars by pulling in front of them and then slamming the brakes, hoping to get rear ended. If illegals are given the privilege to drive in NJ legally, doing this one time, and winning a court case, would be the equivalent of an entire lifetime's earnings in their home country, and since they don't pay withholding taxes, and will never pay taxes on the judgment, they can return to their country as the wealthiest person in their hometown.
This law will literally create a demolition derby/ civil court tourism trade by unscrupulous illegal aliens who will prey upon NJ's insured drivers. I already know there's enough unscrupulous lawyers in NJ who will take part.
Second problem, car insurance companies are going to be wary to insure illegals, because medical insurance fraud will be a low fruit ripe for the picking.
If an illegal is at fault for an accident, the NJ citizen victim will have no judicial recourse, because the illegal has no assets or income on the books, since they are working under the table. There is no way to address this problem outside of an encompassing national level guest worker program, which would give the illegals who are now legal guest workers, driving privleges, car insurance, health benefits, bank accounts, SS accounts, etc.
SO anyway, giving illegals in NJ the driving privilege card could be a positive, if they are required to carry more than state mandated minimum car insurance coverage, and are required to have their driving privlege card linked to license tags and a vehicle. Otherwise, the illegals can just disappear for a few weeks to another state, and return to NJ with a newly acquired Matricula card with a new name and identity, and start over. I've run out of time, I'll leave it at that.

Suspected Cop Killer's Family Flees To Mexico
Group To Protest City's Immigration Policy
May 16, 2005
DENVER -- The search continues for a 19-year-old man suspected of killing a Denver police officer. Raul Garcia-Gomez is accused of gunning down Denver police Detective Donnie Young. The search is currently focused on the Los Angeles area, although there is a strong possibility that he has fled to Mexico.
The car police believe Garcia-Gomez used to flee Denver was found behind his mother's home in Los Angeles. Her neighbors told reporters that the suspect's mom, Gregoria Gomez, has since fled to Mexico. They say they saw Gomez leave with four of her other children late Saturday.
Next-door neighbor Jose Luis Herrera said Garcia-Gomez's 26-year-old cousin, Ismael Goytia, left for Mexico because he was scared after he was mistaken for the suspect by police.
