AMMAN -- Jordanian authorities reportedly confiscated copies of the controversial bestseller, The Da Vinci Code, for slandering Christianity.
Amman's daily Al Ghad said that copies of the book were seized from a publishing house in the Jordanian capital and its owner, Ahmed Abou Tawk, was summoned for interrogation.
The paper quoted the president of the state's Publication Department, Ahmed Kodat, as saying that other titles were confiscated in addition to The Da Vinci Code for undermining religions.
"This book is largely harmful for Christianity and was banned from many countries, including Lebanon," Kodat said, noting that Christian clerics in Jordan demanded the ban.
Jordan, a mainly Muslim country, has a Christian minority.
Yet the "Koran" can be sold, along with "Mein Kampf"
Those are sold here, too, along with The Da Vinci Code.
They're all works of fiction, so who cares?
The "Koran" expresses similiar sentiments.
I just don't buy that "it's because it slanders Christianity."
Mein Kampf should never, ever be removed from circulation. It's a good example of "this is what someone who thinks it's a good idea to try to exterminate Jews, Gypsies, Christians, and other 'undesirables' believes." However, it should always carry a preface explaining who Hitler was, what he did, and what it cost the world to be rid of him.

I agree. I have yet to read it but have browsed the Turner Diaries as well as the Communist Manifesto. It is always best to know how crazy people have crazy ideas.
Though elsewhere it says that Jews and Christians should be treated with respect and not harassed, which is something everyone people here and the fundamentalist Islamic nutjobs somehow manage to forget, along with the strict laws of hospitality.
If nothing else, the Koran is a study in contradictions. It too should be prefaced with a bio of the author and kept in circulation.
The better to know how to recognize crazy ideas that need to be avoided like the plague.
I guess it is nice that a Muslim country dont want to offend/want to protect their Christians but the fact they use censorship to do it counterbalances things.
Please don't use things like facts to confuse the issue...
Am always amazed when religious zealots scream
about Brown's DaVince Code, but they said nothing
when Jesus Christ, Super Star was playing for years!
Brown spins damn good yarns! I was amazed when he
led me through the intricacies of Paris in the Code.
But am NOW reading Angels And Demons...a similar yarn
about the hero and Ms. Vetra looking for a small
amount of anti-matter in the vastness of Vatican City
while a Conclave is going on inside the sealed Sistine Chapel!
Talk about timely! Maybe the critics get so excited
because Brown seems to know too many details about the rooms, passage ways, Swiss Guard movements and specific
people in charge of the Papal selection as well as
scientiically believable modern tech security systems
and hermetically sealed archival museums!
Now, I know Langdon is going to locate the anti-matter,
save the four kidnapped Cardinals, and cement a relation-
ship with his companion. But knowing the "Flash Gordon"
outcome of the final pages doesn't detract from the
journey one bit!
"And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
For starters Revelations is PROPHECY. Jesus DIDN'T write it NOR did He preach it. It supposedly tells of things which will come to pass.
Anyone who can seriously equate a murdrrous rapist, pedophile "prophet" with The Prince of Peace--their words, their ACTS (!!!) and their message can't be taken very seriously.
The Bible and koran, taken in whole (not in single line quotes here and there) are DIAMETRICALLY opposed.
And then what do we do? Allow him to immigrate to the US and retire here. Just what I want to pay Social Security for.
Thank you, King Abdullah II.

Yes, that's him. And it's not at a convention. He did a cameo on ST Voyager.
His fathers queen (can't remember if it is mother or step-mother) was an American (I think she's still alive) and he was partly educated here. He's married to a Palenstenian and is passionate about their wellfare, even though Yassir Arafat's PLO tried to topple his father's monarchy in a civil war (Black September was named for that clash). He is a friend of ours, as much as any in that world can be, and he seems to be actively working to make a real peace with the Israeli's that both can live with.
I'd love to see his uncle reestablish the Hashemite Kingdom in Iraq as a way of unifying those people.
Interesting family. From what little I know of the history, I think we and the British bet wrong when we listend to Lawrence and put most of our chips on The Saud family.
It's an era and a group of people I really want to spend time researching, from the fall of the Ottoman empire through the establishment of Israel. I think history will end up paying more attention to that area than we do now.

I've another book I'd think should be included in the mix -
Perhaps they confiscated it because of its bad writing.
