MOSCOW - (KRT) - As authorities struggled to restore calm in eastern Uzbekistan on Saturday after a bloody uprising a day earlier, President Islam Karimov defended the decision by his troops to quell the violence by firing into a large crowd, killing up to 300 people by some estimates.

I believe that the killings were in response to these so-called protesters breaking out extreme islamists from prison, otherwise known as a jailbreak While I'm not for any Islamic walking alive, openning fire and killing 300-500 (they keep changing the totals) civilians (women and children included) is unacceptable, period.

By the way, something to consider: Bin Ladin has been quoted as pro democracy in Saudi Arabia too. Why? Because his fanatics are the majority, just like they hold the majority of Pakistan's parliment. Free elections are no guarentee that fanatics won't win.

I heard that these fanatics used their families as human shields. Why did it get this violent - again - the State Dept's orchestrated overthrows of former Soviet republics using these very same tactics such as building takeovers and freeing of prisoners and mass marchers as a substitute for the republican process has caused fear in those nation's next to be hit. The state apparatus responded out of fear that if they did not CIA backed parties and the Islamists would overthrow the govt.

Easy to talk and stand by your principles, but when a prison is being over run by Islamists using women and children as shields you have little choice.
