That having been said, it's a free enterprise world and he can spend his money however he pleases. And I defend his right to spend it as he sees fit.
Being on the side of the support staff, caterers, musicians, hotel, flowers, etc., it's very exciting and money gets passed all around.
It's nether sick, nor evil, nor degenerate. He does not owe anyone to have to spend on so-called good causes, and he spends his money in whatever way he wishes. One could probably say that it is not a particularly smart expenditure, but then again - it is his stuff.
He could've used the money to temporarily house about 200 homeless people in Seattle. (sarc)
How do you know he doesn't spend even more on charity? the rich usually do, if only for the write-off. The U.S. government spends more per hour on pet pork projects for Congressional whores.
You clearly do not understand the triumph of finally throwing a Bar Mitzvah party that cannot be topped by the Goldburgs.
As for the young man, this party in his honor will not be his undoing. Perhaps it is to late to warn his parents about the dangers of spoiling a child, but he prpbably has not wanted for a thing all his life. My hope is that he does a good job and enjoys his acheivement. His parents committment to outdo every other Jew in Europe will last until someone tops this.
Now as far as those who want him to spend his money some other way. Ask him. Its your right to show him what else needs doing. Never mind the guards at the property line, they are going to escort you downtown where the nice man will take your name.
RE: "This is sick, evil, and degenerate."
There are only two kinds of men in this world who can say something like that:
1.) Men who've never seen Beyoncee and her two extra-fine backups doing their thing onstage, and
2.) Gays (not that there's anything wrong with that...)
Beyoncee doing her bootee-shake thing just feet from him on his passage into manhood....now THAT's a "religious experience" (forgive my carbon-dated Southern euphenisms).
Pretty please somebody, this thread calls for a few picks.
PLEASE!
How is it being wasted? The money does not disappear. It actually creates more economic activity. All the people that make arrangements for this party get paid and their help gets paid. That puts more money in their pockets so they can go out and spend it.
I can find things in this world far more sick, evil and degenerate than wasting millions of dollars for this boys bar mitvah. However, it's Mr. Green's money (no pun intended) and he can spend it as he wishes.
I've heard bar mitzvah's can be as elaborate as a wedding celebration.
When it's all said and done and the party's over, I just hope that this young man realizes the importance of his religious responsibilities to his faith.
