Billionaire hires Destiny's Child (Spends $7.4 million on son's bar mitzvah)

British retail billionaire Philip Green has hired chart-topping R&B group Destiny's Child to perform at his son's bar mitzvah.

The stars are set to entertain guests at the three-day event on the French Riviera estimated to have cost the Bhs and Top Shop boss £4m ($7.4m).

Singer Justin Timberlake could also be performing, The Times reports.

Mr Green is said to have chartered a plane to fly about 200 of his family's friends to the bash this weekend.

The guests are being put up at the exclusive Hotel du Cap in Cannes, with the actual bar mitzvah itself expected to take place at a synagogue being temporarily set up in the building.

Mr Green, who lives in nearby Monaco, has built up a fortune of more than £3bn.

Rich and famous

He went straight into the rag trade after leaving private school in Berkshire at the age of 15.

Securing the services of pop stars is nothing new for the rich and famous.

UK-based steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal was able to hire Kylie Minogue for his daughter's wedding in Versailles last year.

And Mr Green, 53, who unsuccessfully tried to buy UK High Street group Marks & Spencer, marked his 50th birthday by throwing a three-day bash for 250 guests in Cyprus.

That event included a toga party and entertainment from Tom Jones and Rod Stewart.

It's his money, at least he's enjoying it.

Think of how many poor children in Israel and Russia could have new shoes and milk.

I'd be worried about a yarmulke malfunction.

This is sick, evil, and degenerate. Absolutely makes me want to vomit. That money could be spent on so many good causes that would give great blessings on this man and his son. He chooses to waste the money. And what a horrific and spiritually deadly curse to bring on to his son.

That having been said, it's a free enterprise world and he can spend his money however he pleases. And I defend his right to spend it as he sees fit.

I agree he can spend his money as he wants! but i would spend the money on some high class chicks! I guess everyone has their priorities hahaha.
Seriously, i just hope his kid turns out to be a good productive member in the world, not a snotnose prick.

$7.4M beans for this gig. Oy vey!

Maybe Densinty's Child has shiksappeal. ____________________________________________________________

Elaine: So now the *other* Lippman kissed me.

George: Well, sure. They're Jewish, and you're a shiksa.

Elaine: What?

George: It means a non-Jewish woman.

Elaine: I know what it means, but what does being a shiksa have to do with it?

George: You've got 'shiksappeal'. Jewish men love the idea of meeting a woman that's not like their mother.

Elaine: Oh, that's insane.

George: I'll tell you what's insane: the price that I could get you on a new desktop computer.

Elaine: I am not buying a computer from you.

George: There's porn.

Elaine: (Pausing) Even so.

George: Damn it!

I don't think it's so sick and degenerate. If I had that kind of money, and we all wish we did, I'd tithe 10% which is the same for Jew or Christain. Some percent to charities, and enjoy the rest. Believe me, I've thought it out if I become wealthy.

Being on the side of the support staff, caterers, musicians, hotel, flowers, etc., it's very exciting and money gets passed all around.

Sorry, but this is awesomely evil. What kind of spiritual entry in manhood is he giving his son? He is destroying his child.

But you are entitled to your opinion, and he is entitled to spend his money anyway he sees fit.

The kid comes from money so he'll probably always have it, hopefully this will be a spiritual experience for him.

What kind of parent would book Destiny's Child for a bar mitzvah? Isn't this a religious passage into adulthood? I'll have to ask my bf about this. As a Catholic, I don't agree with this waste of money, or the choice of entertainment.

Yes, with the deep spiritual values always instilled by Destiny's Child and Justine Timberlake.

It's nether sick, nor evil, nor degenerate. He does not owe anyone to have to spend on so-called good causes, and he spends his money in whatever way he wishes. One could probably say that it is not a particularly smart expenditure, but then again - it is his stuff.
