President Bush to speak at National Catholic Prayer Breakfast

The White House announced this morning that President George W. Bush will speak to the 2nd Annual National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, Friday, May 20th at the Washington Hilton in Washington DC.

Go to http://www.catholicprayerbreakfast.com to read the press release on this announcement and also to read the security memo.

This is a great honor for the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast.

Mr Bush was the first American president to attend the funeral of a Pope when he went to Rome for Pope John Paul 11's funeral along with global leaders and individual believers who waited in lines as long as 24 hours to view the Pope's body as it lay in state at the Vatican.

President Bush said he was touched by the solemn Mass celebrated on the steps of the Vatican, adorned by the simple wood casket holding John Paul's 11 body, which preceded the Pope's burial.

The funeral was attended by religious leaders of every denomination, heads of state, and royalty from around the globe.

The funeral Mass was concelebrated by then-Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger---now Pope Benedict XV1---John Paul 11's successor.

The two agreed to disagree, but held mutual respect for each other. What an honor to have the president speak at the Prayer Breakfast.

Jeb Bush married a Catholic.

Something usually needs to give when a religious non-Catholic marries a Catholic. Jeb was raised as an Episcopalian, and to my knowledge did not come to his religion by way of Billy Graham and did not have the Evangelical connections of his brother. Even so, it took Jeb a lot of married years before he became a Catholic.

In his brother's case, I could see it only if he and Laura both decided together than that they want to become Catholic. They respect the church, but they also respect Judaism and a number of faiths that do not accept Christ, including Islam. Does not mean they would ever convert.

I see their great respect for Catholicism, but she is a lifelong Methodist and he traces his current spirituality to Billy Graham, and in those things I see little similarity to Jeb Bush's path to conversion.

In sum, I suggest you try thinking bigger thoughts, instead of relying on your ambitious provincialism.

Excuse me, but I'm not the one who dragged that universal bogeyman, the neo-cons, out of the closet for another beating.

Provincialism indeed.

Just a little mistake in the map of states Pres. Bush carried over Kerry--Iowa has been left out.

(MAP UPDATE Bush won Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico later.)

Look at the very bottom of the post----Iowa is included in the Update. Since the map was published before some states were decided, Iowa is not shown on the map, but later states are always included in the poast---as an Update.

It's not out of the realm of possibility.

You're familiar with the conversion to Catholicism of Linda Poindexter, wife of Admiral John Poindexter, who was an Episcopal priest, aren't you?
