That would be a riot! Somewhere in this mix Bourke should be nominated for something. It's time to take a page from the lib's "in your face" book.
Night. Great talkin to you. Love your ideas.
I'm not sure about that, but if my memory serves me correctly, I could swear that a Senator can only block a nominee from a confirmation hearing, and no power to block the nominee once he or she is moved out of Committee and onto the Senate Floor
Nite Lizma, back atcha
"Consideration" takes place in the Confirmation hearing
I can't find my Congressional handbook :-(
He said her security, which appeared to consist of about 6 secret service, was pretty relaxed. He'd given his lanyard to another reporter that day, so her kid could use it for her house key. This meant he had to carry his press creds in his coat pocket where they didn't show. He was hassled about wearing them where they would show, agreed to do that, then just put them back in his pocket and had a nice chat with Laura. He said she was amused, very genuine, very gracious. If his editor runs his piece, I'll post that.
My Mom has a wave kinda like Laura's -- it's a family joke with my sons, who always kid her in a loving way and wave good-bye like she does -- with an unusual formation of fingers .. with her bent little finger sticking up a bit. She's had that little deformity since birth, and I always think of her when I see Laura's wave.
You rang snugs????
BTW, I have literally been screaming at the dang TV most of day -- first due to the repetition on all channels about that Wendy's "mystery" found in the food .. jEEz .. how many times a day do they have to talk about it?? And -- Dingy Harry and his despicable comments about a judicial nominee's FBI file .. just as low as you can get, when the nominee cannot speak to any comments. I predict the Rats are riding for an implosion, and I can't wait. Delay was right this week: they have NO CLASS!
In case some of you haven't seen this .. regarding the importance of the dynamic occurring in the Senate....this, from an earlier thread this week:
"(received) from the Center for Reclaiming America (e-mail), and if you can't call them all, please at least call one or two.
If you can't call them, at least e-mail them (but calling is more effective).THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. PLEASE make that call!
The Center has identified six key senators whose votes may well decide the fate of the filibuster rules change. We are asking all member of our online team to contact these individual senators, urging each to FULLY SUPPORT THE FILIBUSTERING RULES CHANGE.
Even if none of these six senators is your own senator, please invest the time needed to call each right now.
Here are their names and contact information:
Sen. Susan Collins (ME) 202-224-2523
Sen. Lamar Alexander (TN) 202-224-4944
Sen. Trent Lott (MS) 202-224-6253
Sen. Olympia Snowe (ME) 202-224-5344
Sen. Chuck Hagel (NE) 202-224-4224
Sen. John Warner (VA) 202-224-2023
Here is the toll-free number to reach all of them:
==>877-762-8762
I hope all of you call these senators, even if they're not your own, and tell them to maintain party unity and demand up/down votes for judges and support the fillibuster, if necessary. I've called Snowe, Alexander, Hagel, Collins, Warner . .. Lott's was always busy. There're probably more wimps like Chaffee and McCain I should be calling too .. wondering who we can count on anymore. I called Voinovich too -- gave his assistant some strong rebuke for his grandstanding and disloyalty.
Gee, snugs -- now I'm spent and my throat is scratchy -- might have to borrow your meds .. ;)
Oh .. Poppy's out there today, too, delivering the commencement address at Rice Univ. today. Caption says he paused a bit after his speech. He had gotten choked up when he was speaking about his grandson, who graduated from there last year. Hope he's OK.
Thanks for that report, looking forward to the next if his piece is published
Your Welcome STARWISE, I consider it an honor to post this thread
Since the District of Columbia has no representation in the Senate, The implementation of "Personal Privilege" is moot
As we speak, Leahy and Stabenow have blocked a nominee for the Judiciary through "Personal Privilege" and the Brit Hume's show Special Report said just tonight that the two Senators were blocking the nomination from the Committee hearing
I've seen a picture of you and you look just darling my dear!
Tammy
Yes, I saw that my friend. I got kinda tickled at that. :-)
I have been studying very carefully the posts you have made about the Senate. That's the Mike I love! I have learned more from your posts over the past year and a half than from any other poster.
Thanks for the education!
Tammy
My geography is not great but could it have been the VP?
