A day after Sen. Norm Coleman implicated a member of Parliament in a U.N. oil-for-food scheme, the British legislator shot back Thursday in a cross-Atlantic exchange of words.
The legislator, George Galloway, likened Coleman to the late U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy, a characterization that sets the scene for a televised confrontation on Capitol Hill Tuesday, one that could further raise the Minnesota Republican's profile.
Coleman already has gained international attention for calling on U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to resign as a result of the oil-for-food scandal.
The latest showdown began Wednesday when the Senate's permanent subcommittee on investigations, which Coleman chairs, released a report accusing Galloway and former French Interior Minister Charles Pasqua of accepting vouchers for millions of barrels of Iraqi oil-- which could then be resold at immense profit -- in exchange for their support of Saddam Hussein's regime.

Betcha Galloway does a bunk :)
In Liberal Land subversion *is* patriotism.
So, for the dims at least, he deserves a special place in hell beside Zell Miller, Ben Nighthorse Campbell and other former Democrats who've committed the Ultimate Sin.
The local Democratic Party newsletter, i.e.: the Minneapolis Star Tribune, will do everything, I'm sure, to see that Coleman isn't re-elected.
Hey, if Coleman turns out to be another Joe McCarthy I'll gladdly vote for him again!
I'm not for all that McCarthy did, but it was the climate of the times. It's funny how his name has been slandered many more times over than he did others.
The problem is it won't be a debate. Nixon won the real, classic debate, according to all observers, against Kennedy in 1960, but the "sound bite/TV clip war" was won by Kennedy and the leftist/dim/(KGB) spinmeisters in their first major operation.
This is going to be the last, desperate, gasp of the dying MSM and radical 60s leftists. And they won't care who they destroy. They'll do anything they can to ruin Coleman and any other Republican and glorify Galloway.
Think of the Ken Starr interview.
He was my final nudge to join the Republican party. I can never thank him enough.
a badge of honor for Norm, IMHO
"They'll do anything they can to ruin Coleman and any other Republican and glorify Galloway."
Have you seen Coleman in action? He debates beautifully, and his best defense is to go on the offense, which he does often and with rapier technique. One would have to be exceedingly quick-witted, like on a par with Tony Blair, to get the best of Coleman. One sharp cookie. This showdown will be very enjoyable. I don't think the MSM can touch Coleman - he is on a very powerful committee and is pretty much immune to anything they might try to toss at him, and the fact is there is nothing to toss. I think Coleman is very much a rising star in the Pub Party.
Galloway tends to be over-dramatic. I think Coleman is very good in an earnest Brooklyn/Midwestern kind of way. Also, Coleman is Jewish and I bet Galloway will end up calling him "you people."
Boy, oh, boy! Things are really heating up all over DC! Just think...we get 3 more years of this before President Bush leaves office!
The one thing I have never understood is why they hate McCarthy who only investigated Communists in government but have nothing to say about Rep. Dyes who actually chaired the investigation of the Hollywood group.
Ummm .. The Senate doesn't debate at their hearings
They give long winded speeches .. the ask a few questions and you answer them
I wonder if Galloway is aware of that??
I've been out of the loop all day....when's this happening?
Tuesday.
Hell liked McCarthy wish we had more like him watchdogs to watch and expose Communist/Liberals are what we need to weed out the government of them !
As in, Coleman in '08?
Coleman should be honored to be compared McCarthy.
Thanks...And, count me "in"!
LOL.
I hadn't thought of that one.
