French poll finds 52 pct plan to vote 'yes' to EU constitution (Fourth Reich marches on)

PARIS (AFX) - A new poll has found that 52 pct of decided French voters say they intend to vote 'yes' to the new EU constitution on May 29, when France holds its referendum on whether or not to approve the new treaty.

The TNS-Sofres/Unilog poll for Le Monde newspaper and French news channel LCI indicated that 27 pct of those surveyed have still not made up their minds.

It was the third poll in a row carried out by the institute to show supporters of the EU constitution in front, following several weeks of polls that found the 'no' vote ahead.

On the political left, Socialist voters are evenly split on the issue, with 50 pct supporting each side. On the right, 81 pct of those in President Jacques Chirac's ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) say they will vote yes.

All 25 EU member states must approve the constitutional treaty for it to come into effect. If such a heavyweight EU member as France were to reject the constitution, many observers believe the treaty would be stopped in its tracks.

So far, six countries have ratified the treaty -- Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

When do they actually do the voting? I've been hearing news of polling for weeks.

I'm pinning my hopes on the fact that the Conservatives did make some substantial gains. But who knows, England and Denmark seem to be the only hold outs. "New" Europe jump on board faster then "Old" Europe. Gads, the document is 300+ pages and states flat out in the Loyalty Clause that the member states will tow the party line.

The 27% of undecideds will probably break for a "Non".

I wouldn't count on it. The EU is busy sweatening the pot for the Non to be Oui. Whether or not they come through in the end is irrelavent.

I don't know, but if 27% of French voters aren't convinced to vote Yes for the constitution despite 40+ years of EU brainwashing then I would think there's no more propaganda that can change their minds with 2 weeks to go for the election.

They don't actually ever vote in France. It's all done by polling.

It would not matter if the French voted 199% against it. They will just have another vote anyway.

The Eurocrat are grabbing into their handmore power than anyone in the history of Europe has ever had, most of it outside the ballot box. It is unstoppable. I expect us to be at war with them in 15 years.

Exactly. That is why it is critical to keep Russia and England out of their hands, otherwise, we're screwed.

Well I would not worry much about Russia. They will get England - scandinavia too. They will suck them dry.

I reall do not see the Russians joining the EU. They want acess to markets and capital, but not memebrship. Even if the British reject this round, there will be another.

I do not know what you mean by "screwed." In the end the EU will not work. My guess is though that through "integration" a forceful leader will arise that will dominate the Continent. I think we will be at war with them, but I do not think they will win.

The EU has too many problems, they will not have enough money to compete with us in the military or the research areas.

In the end it will fail, it will just cause a lot of misery before that happens.

Once the constitution goes through, you will see a great deal of huffing and puffing out of the Eurocrats, but your will see little real results.

They are living in a fantasy world over there. Reality will bite soon enough.

I think the key to America's future is to follow the conservative agenda: Greater economic and political freedoms. Also, we must shift resources away from entitlements and into R & D and the military.

The EU will be a royal pain in the arse, but I do not see how we are "screwed."

All you have to do is look at idiocies like Airbus, to see where the EU is headed.

French vote to declare work week unconstitutional and should be abolished. Want life on welfare at full pay and pension and retirement, with full health and dental care for all of them. Baths and arm pit shaving optional.

Screwed because we won't have an effective jump off point for a two front war. As for cash, we are a debter nation that is already cancelling many of our high tech project. If the EU goes dictatorial, such issues will not affect them. They have the tech for a world class military, only not the present resolve. If a dictator rises, that'll be taken care off.
