WASHINGTON The Pentagon today recommended closing Naval Station Ingleside, Brooks City Base, Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant, Red River Army Depot and several smaller military installations in Texas.
However, Texas would see a net gain of more than 9,000 military jobs under the plan, led by growth at Fort Bliss in El Paso and Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, according to the Pentagon. Six bases would be realigned, including Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Sheppard Air Force Base.
The Base Realignment and Closure Commission will review the Pentagon's list and send its recommendations to President Bush. He must issue a list to Congress by Sept. 23. Congress has 45 days to reject it before it becomes official.

Yes, they shut down the runways years ago. How much need is there for an Air Force Base with inactive runways.
That depends on the mission. However, Brooks is right next to Kelly which had plenty of runways. :-)
Well Clinton loathed the military so I would not expect to see much of the military there. Nevertheless, don't kid yourself that this committee did not factor in Bush when it came to Texas. After all he is the President and will sign end up signing the bill.
Nope.. I prefer a Wall to Guards.
Putting guards on the border is moronic.
Read post above.
Guards is a stupid, idiotic idea.. A wall would be a much, much better option.
Cleveland loses 1,028+ (IIRC) and Columbus gains some (Ohio). Either way, these Finance and Accounting jobs should be outsourced any way. JMHO.
Amen.
For some reason, around here, any and every dollar spent on the military is wisely spent.
Pork is pork.
