Some conservatives were angered by President Bush's decision to attend the military parade in Russia, where the Red Army was honored for its role in World War Two sixty years ago. The Red Army has a record of bloodshed that exceeds even that of the Nazi SS units.
The leaders of Lithuania and Estonia acted on principle, and decided to boycott the military parade in Russia honoring the Red Army, with communist hammer and sickle flags in full display. While we remember the victims of Nazism, we should not forget the tyranny that the Baltics and the rest of Eastern Europe was subjected to for over 40 years.
Communism killed 100 million people in the 20th Century, double the number who died in World War Two. America should build a memorial to victims of the Communist genocides in Ukraine, China, Cambodia, Russia, Vietnam, etc.
Well phrased that way sure. However blonde girls from the upper Mid-West ARE more special than criminals of any sort or location.
Why? It didn't happen here.
Should we build a monument to the "Rape of Nan-king," "The Killing Fields of Cambodia," and the Armenian Genocide too? I don't think we should have built a Holocaust Memorial here because none of the killings occurred here, and the Us was not involved with the killing.
Why is it that the British get this but we can't seem to. You didn't see Blair over there and Churchill NEVER trusted Stalin like FDR did.
Why not go back and actually read the first sentence of the article.
Apparently, you have fluxed the present political machinations with some misguided idea of what WWII was really about...
Or read Walter Duranty's coverage in the NY Times during the 1930's of the Soviet Union...for which the NY Times received a Pulitizer Prize
Oh no wait a minute, my bad...Mr. Duranty never mentioned the mass murder of the Ukranians...sorry
Yea and we we could have won WWII conventionally without the Russians /sarcasm
Swing and a miss. What the hell was your prior cynical post directed towards?
If it will make all of the putrid commie scumbag supporters and advocates angry then I say heck yeah!
They should build it in front of the State Department, to remind the appeasers every day.
True enough. If you owned a business (or more than one), farms), land, estate, etc in the USSR, God have mercy on you. If you refused to work on the Collective or tried to hold onto your lands and property, you would have been in deep trouble.
Private property is one of the underpinnings of any truly free society. Genocide against a Class of people is not.
Damn Kulaks! (sarc.)
Russia was allied, no doubt. An honorable ally? Spit out the hook.
Outstanding idea!
Did they kill enemy that we didn't have to? Did they take bullets they our men didn't have to? yes and yes. Were the the best friends we could have ever had... no. Should we honor their sacrifices in that War? hell ya.
It should include live webcams of such totalitarian repression as going on in Sudan, Zimbabwe, etc.
It's merely "political correctness" to memorialize the deaths of 6 million innocent people, an enitre people/religion which was marked for extinction by the Nazis?
