Anti-smoking groups have charged that tobacco companies, particularly Reynolds American Inc., are luring teenagers into the smoking habit by offering flavored cigarettes and advertising them in magazines with heavy adolescent readership like Rolling Stone, Glamour and Elle.

As a former 'casual' smoker - I've tried a few of the Camel one's and they weren't bad (Citrus twist and Ishmir Stinger were the 'tastiest' IMHO) but there were some that were downright nasty...
What about favored pipe tobacco - essentially the same thing, right? (Well, other than pipes not being 'cool' with today's young folk)

Out of control.
Are they also going to ban Kool, Salem, and other menthol cigs?
How about the clove cigs (Djarum) which are smoked almost exclusively in Indonesia? Ban all Djarum imports?

I have a simple question. Why do these people have such a problem with "Big Tobacco" and no beef at all with "Big Alcohol"?
As a parent, I would much rather catch my kid smoking than drunk.

Because they still like to drink.

I really don't see why a flavored cigarette would appeal more to a child than a regular. When a kid first decides to try one, they aren't thinking about what flavor it is (at least I sure know I wasn't). When it comes down to it, it still tastes like tobacco for the most part.

Glamour and Elle. Challenge. Find me a Glamor or Elle magazine (throw in Cosmo and other chic magazines at the check out line) that does NOT have the word Sex on the cover withih the past 24 months.

When I was in college clove cigarettes we the in thing with the left wing nit-wits. I don't think anything smelled as bad as clove cigarettes.

Maybe. But clove cigarettes TASTED fantastic. I don't miss smoking as a habit, but the occassional cigar or clove cigarette still sounds good.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed these anti-smoking ads on TV?
I don't smoke and dislike the odor of tobacco but these ads are really offensive to me. They show really, really rude young people acting like little creeps. Because they are being obnoxious to tobacco executives it is supposed to be funny and ok.

I tried some flavoured bidis once but the only ones I liked were the mint. Smoking the grape and strawberry bidis was like drinking perfume.
