So do you really believe that they are closing bases based on the fact that a state didn't vote the right way? I find that hard to believe...but heh what do I know.

Were you kidding or serious?

Red States by and large love the military and the towns around them treat them very well. For Air Force purposes, we have open skies in red states and not a lot of environmentalists. It makes sense to grow military bases in States that are friendly and love the military. Surge in Red States is handled better because we are more in the open and don't have to fight tons of air traffic.

You could say the Red states come out on top because we are for the military and more conservative by nature. Besides it is fun after the BRAC's of Clinton that went after Red States and protected some fairly useless military installations.

Senator Inhofe also said this morning that to get an installation added to the list that was not already on it, would take the vote of seven commissioners unlike before under Clinton rules where a few could get a name added. He said it isn't going to happen -- bases that are not on the list are SAFE!

Some bases got to stay for so long because of politics. Not sure about the ones on the list but it's possible politics kept them alive for so long and without the right backers there was little incentive to keep them around.
