Does not make sense.

If they're really closing Ellsworth, I have to question their wisdom. It is hard to imagine a better site for an air base.
Per Florida Today (can't post link due to excerpt list) reporting Patrick AFB (FL) is safe but will lose 136 military and 59 civilian service jobs.
I have to sign off for a few hours, I won't be able to post a thread with any details of this news until later today.
If anyone else posts a thread about the proposed Groton sub base closing, please ping me. Thanks.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.

list of closings
I don't know enough about how the capabilities supported at each is otherwise provided, or if the capabilities are slated to be diminished or dropped, to form an opinion about the decisions. Pentagon tends to be rather steely-eyed on these matters.
Willow Grove Naval Air Station in Montgomery County, PA is closing. Bad news for us here.
I'd like to know what foreign bases are closing.
I just read the stories on superiors demanding a DECREASE in arrests of illegals coming across in AZ and another on the corruption of the border patrol agents.
Let's ask our senators to prove they are series about protecting our security before they cut off peoples economies at these bases! Give me a break.
What does realigned mean?
Niagara Falls Air Force base is on the list to close. The local economy is very bad as it is. What's shocking is that N.F. is across the river from the Canadian border. One local resident suggested that it should be used as a command center to fight terroism. It will be interesting to see what our state senator, Hitlery, does about this. If she does, it will be the first help she's ever given this area.
Base closing list.
California: DLI and Naval Post Graduate School (Monterey) dodge another bullet
Around here we'll all worried about Scott AFB.
PING! Come look see who's on the BRAC list. Try not to giggle too much!
It's great comedy for me every time they have one of these base closures. You get these anti-war anti-America anti-military anti-conservative liberal Democrats suddenly turning into instant HAWKS the minute a base closure is threatened in their district.
Here in Austin, we closed Bergstrom Air Force Base in the mid-90s when it hit the endangered list. It's now Bergstrom Airport, replacing the old and poorly designed facility that had become outdated. The old airport is being converted into business and park land.
Yet there were liberal peacenick pols who went ape---- when it was announced the base would need to be closed. Oh, the humanity! Oh, the loss of jobs! Suddenly, these soldiers weren't "baby-killers" anymore!
So when you hear all this crying and posturing about base closures just remember that the government never cancels anything that still has a legitimate need. We should applaud one of the few times it truly does downsize something other than their IQs.
They're also closing down (again) part of Rome Air Base in Rome, NY. Our economy is bad enough. Too bad.
So what does a "realignment" mean. I see my local AFB Beale is being "realigned"
I thought BRAC was supposed to end in the early 90s? What happened to a strong defense?
