Reid cites FBI file on judicial pick [Big no-no]
WASH TIMES ^ | 5-13-05 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 05/13/2005 4:59:18 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Minority Leader Harry Reid strayed from his prepared remarks on the Senate floor yesterday and promised to continue opposing one of President Bush's judicial nominees based on "a problem" he said is in the nominee's "confidential report from the FBI."

Those highly confidential reports are filed on all judicial nominees, and severe sanctions apply to anyone who discloses their contents. Less clear is whether a senator could face sanctions for characterizing the content of such files.

"Henry Saad would have been filibustered anyway," Mr. Reid said on the floor yesterday, about the Michigan Appeals Court judge who is nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.

"All you need to do is have a member go upstairs and look at his confidential report from the FBI, and I think we would all agree that there is a problem there," Mr. Reid continued.

Republican staff members and supporters of Mr. Bush's nominees were outraged.

"Can you think of a better way to trash someone's reputation?" Sean Rushton of the conservative Committee for Justice asked after seeing a transcript of the remarks. "Say that there is bad stuff from an FBI investigation in a file somewhere and leave that hanging. This is character assassination of the lowest order and completely improper."

True. Many Republicans wanted him to stay on until 2012, but he wants to go back into practicing medicine.

Please don't denegrate McCarthy's name by associating him with what the democrats are doing. The democrats, with help from the press ruined Joseph McCarthy with a relentless campaign like they're still doing today with Bolton and good judges. Almost single handedly Joseph McCarthy forced communisum down a black hole for about forty years. I long for another Joseph McCarthy to call out all the commies in our government today, which have taken over the democrat party.

"Reid needs to have the book( or any book) thrown at him"

How about the Quoran?

Then we could kill two birds with one stone.

Oops. Should watch what I say about "that book" and "stoning," as "they" practice that form of reprisal "literally."

You may be "Brilliant", but you're dreaming if you think Reid will suffer any sanction or retribution for his unconscionable, but clearly intentional smear of this judicial nominee.

The best we've got going for us is more proof that even Democrats must cringe everytime Reid takes the Senate floor. "Dusty Foot In Mouth Again" should be his nickname. Democrats know how weak a leader Reid is, how inarticulate, how embarrassing, and how unworthy he is to follow in the footsteps of their great senate leaders.

Reid is one to talk. I've seen his confidential FBI file. Now, I'm not going to say that he had a sexual relationship with a man who was a convicted spy for China. No. It would be wrong of me to even hint that Reid did such a thing. Nor would I breathe a word about his 7 visits to rehab centers for alcoholism. That information is private, and you won't hear me say a word about it ...

... and the less said about the child-porn ring, the better.

... and then there's that animal thing...

Hey, now! It would be completely improper to mention Reid's involvement with child sex trafficking in Las Vegas if you only knew about it from the contents of his confidential FBI file.

Republicans will not take any effective action.

Democrats will continue effort to keep the Arab, the black and women off the bench.

The FOIA applies only to federal agencies and does not create a right of access to records held by Congress

SNIP

Could they mean that Saad doesn't have access to the Congressional file?

I would think that a good lawyer could make the case that they are not Congressional files. They are FBI files and were "loaned" to the committee - not to Congress - by the Executive Branch with the understanding that only committee members and the two Senators from the individual's state would have access to them.

"We have A-Holes for Senators who don't know how to play a hand even when it's a royal straight flush. How they can allow that bas-turd Reid to do this and then stay quite is beyond me. Think Teddy has some stuff in his files?"

Because if they censure him the Republicans will appear to be taking out revenge on Reid for Obstructing Bush's picks. At least that is how the MSM will protray it.

The RATS have the advantage because they have the leftwing media carrying its water bucket.

Posted without comment.

After reading the article I can see why. The only comment I can make is - same old same old. Also, I noticed the word compromise appeared back then as well. Disgusting!

"Certainly don't mention the incident with Harry and the sheep in the hotel room in Searchlight"

That was minor compared to what happened in Bullhead.

"Reid has got to be one of the stupidest politicians we've ever had. It's one stupid statement after another, each one more stupid than the last."

You are SO RIGHT!! If he is the best the RATs could pick for senate leader, that doesn't say much for the rest. What a marroon!! I hope and pray the Senate Republicans do something -- anything -- about this, but I know that is wishful thinking on my part. Feckless Frist and the rest of the RINOs will roll over and play dead, as usual.

Excellent example and reason that we need to keep this corrupt party as far away from power as is humanly possible.

(And I didn't know that thing about Reid and the man from China, but my lips are sealed..........)
