COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Police Monday shot and killed five buffaloes that escaped from a meatpacking plant.

Instead of fleeing, the buffalo began grazing in a yard and police fired at the buffalo with semiautomatic rifles as each charged officers one-by-one.

[...]

By the time all five animals were shot, at least 120 rounds had been fired, a few that hit empty houses and a nearby car, Laxson said. The first buffalo took several shots in the head and "didn't even flinch."

What a horrible catastrophe! Instead of killing the gentle buffalo, The police should have captured those poor creatures, lead them back into the slaughterhouse, and then . . . ah . .. oh . . . nevermind.

As a CU-Boulder alum, I'm really offended by this thread.

I'm sure PETA is already on the scene. I'm sure the Libs have held at least three press conferences already. Never fear, more of our hard-earned tax dollars will be wasted on this.

Something like a .405 Winchester or .450 Marlin would have been more suited for the task.

Aren't you CU Buffs too busy with the sexual scandals at your school to worry about a little beff-kabob party ?

Back in the old days they didnt call em "Buffalo Guns" for nothing.

And I would bet it did not take 120 rounds to kill 5 buffalo.

Not to forget also, Indians killed enough to feed their people, with only spears and bow/arrow.

at least 120 rounds had been fired

The LA County Sheriff's office is no doubt breathing a sigh of relief that those buffalo weren't in Compton.

In many states, hunting large animals with a .22 (yea, .223 is a .22 cal bullet) is a crime. Perhaps the "law" should study their own damn books.

Did they grill their suspects afterward?

yes, I heard that they really held them to the fire for a while...basted them in the interrogation room. But one turned Stoolie and sang like a bird... hence...

Buffalo Wings!

Ummm...no I think this is goodness if youre a perp. I suppose you can pretty much count on not being hit no matter how much ordinance goes down range. OTOH if youre a large immovable object then its going to suck to be you.

The cops should be damned lucky that nobody was hurt by those shots that went into empty houses. No buffalo burgers for these guys.
