Was World War II worth it?
WorldNetDaily ^ | 5-11-05 | Patrick Buchanan

Posted on 05/12/2005 2:08:18 PM PDT by HangnJudge

For much of Eastern and Central Europe, victory brought the iron rule of another empire. V-E day marked the end of fascism, but it did not end the oppression. The agreement in Yalta followed in the unjust tradition of Munich and the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Once again, when powerful governments negotiated, the freedom of small nations was somehow expendable. ... The captivity of millions in Central and Eastern Europe will be remembered as one of the greatest wrongs in history.

Bush told the awful truth about what really triumphed in World War II east of the Elbe. And it was not freedom. It was Stalin, the most odious tyrant of the century. Where Hitler killed his millions, Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot and Castro murdered their tens of millions....

...If Yalta was a betrayal of small nations as immoral as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, why do we venerate Churchill and FDR? At Yalta, this pair secretly ceded those small nations to Stalin, co-signing a cynical "Declaration on Liberated Europe" that was a monstrous lie.

Pat Buchanan toasted in the news

Was World War II worth it?

"In the inflammatory world view of Pat Buchanan, the short answer is no. The war that stopped the Nazis' global campaign and the mechanistic extermination of European Jewry was actually not worth the effort."

In retrospect, the Europeans did not deserve our help.

Was World War II worth it?

That depends on whether or not the former allied powers and the axis nations that they remade in their own image succeed in committing cultural suicide and leaving the world to ghetto rappers and jihadists.

This is interesting as a psychological study of a person in advanced stages of dementia, but is a duplicate thread.

Here are some quotes from Buchanan's piece with my 2 cents attached at the end:

"why do we venerate Churchill and FDR?"

"FDR and Churchill consigned these peoples to a Stalinist hell run by a monster they alternately and affectionately called "Uncle Joe" and "Old Bear," why are they not in the history books alongside Neville Chamberlain, who sold out the Czechs at Munich by handing the Sudetenland over to Germany? At least the Sudeten Germans wanted to be with Germany." -I must point out that the vast majority of Czech's did not want to become part of Germany. Buchanan is using the same selective reasoning that Hitler did in justifying his takeover.

"Polish freedom was lost to communism, how can we say Britain won the war?" -Because Hitler didn't want Poland you F%^&!!! He wanted to take over the world!

"At the end of the war Churchill wanted and got, Czechoslovakia and Poland were in Stalin's empire." -He blames Churchill for WW2. That does it, he's a Nazi.

"How, then, can men proclaim Churchill "Man of the Century"? -Because he saved the world jackass.

"But before Britain declared war on Germany, France, Holland and Belgium did not need to be liberated. They were free. They were only invaded and occupied after Britain and France declared war on Germany" -What twisted logic. Either he doesn't understand Hitler, or he does understand Hitler and is a fan of his.

"If the objective of the West was the destruction of Nazi Germany, it was a "smashing" success. But why destroy Hitler? If to liberate Germans, it was not worth it. After all, the Germans voted Hitler in." -Not true, in Germany's last free election in 1933 Hitler got less than a third of the vote. He was given power and then used it to destroy democracy. The elections after that were a sham. Him asking "Why destroy Hitler?" is very disturbing, he should not be allowed on MSNBC.

"If it was to keep Hitler out of Western Europe, why declare war on him and draw him into Western Europe?" -Once again implying that it was Britain and France that provoked WW2, not Germany. Blatantly false.

The article thread that refuses to go away. Been addressed (somewhat vehemently) by FReepers at least twice already.

Pat's spiral toward political extremism, fringe isolation, and eventual obscurity proceeds apace.

Already posted twice. It would be helpful this time around if people would read the damn article before bashing Buchanan and calling him a "Nazi."

Hard to answer that one...dont think it can be done. From what i see today i think it was. It helped the US Economy and turned us into a Superpower...we could have continued to be Isolationists and Let hitler play war with his little soldiers i just think he would have Bit us in our asses later for our arrogance. Pearl Harbor was bad but it helped us so we could defeat Japan and Hitler..and that other guy that didnt do much oh yeah Mousilini or what not (hitlers bitch). Japan killed millions of Chinese around 12 million by my count and thats even more than Hitler but we dont hear about that do we...The chinese should be Greatful to us for stopping the slaughter of there civilians.

Buchanan brought up valid points about how the Allies mismanaged the war, and those points have been around forever. He shouldn't have asked was the war worth it, that phraseology was misguided. But it's true England and France got in the war late and at an innoprtune time. They almost lost and in the aftermath Stalin got Eastern Europe.

The war was worth it and against Japan too. Especially for us, we got attacked and had no choice anyway. Hitler and Japan needed beating and Pat ignores that in the long run Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union got liberated, too.

I can't go to hard on them for Yalta. Yes, it wasn't the best outcome but a firmer stance could have easily led to a slaughter that would make what had just transpired look like an afternoon tea party. Imagine the one atomic power slugging it out with the most powerful military on the ground in Europe and Asia. That would not have been pretty.

No problem with this particular duplicate, at least from me. I think the conservative community needs to know just how off-the-wall good 'ole Pat is getting. This article ranks right down there with his "Hitler was a great man" statement. It's about time well-known (and not so well-known), legitimate conservatives disclaim him publicly, loudly, completely. Whatever Buchanan is, it isn't conservative, much less Republican.

"Buchanan brought up valid points about how the Allies mismanaged the war, and those points have been around forever."

Not really. He criticizes the concessions at Yalta, but on everything else seems to be against the allies. His entire basis is that Britain and France started the war rather than Germany, which is naive and false. You're right that England and France should have acted sooner, but Buchanan is saying the exact opposite, that they shouldn't have gotten involved even after Hitler took over Poland.

If we had sat it out, the USSR would have ended up ruling ALL of Europe and ALL of continental Asia!

More putrid bile from the pie hole of has-been Patrick J. (for Jew-hater) Buchanan. I'm sure it Pat's view, it would have been just fine for Hitler to have exterminated every Jew on Earth. Buchanan needs to be consigned to the latrine can that other lunatics like Lyndon LaRouche dwell in.

"If we had sat it out, the USSR would have ended up ruling ALL of Europe and ALL of continental Asia!"

I think if we had sat it out, Hitler probably would have defeated Russia and ended up in a stalemate with Britain. Thank God we don't even have to know what the world would be like today had that happened.
