The human body is designed for a diet that consists overwhelmingly of plant material.

Although I think vegans are whacky, I have to comment on some of this:
He noted that the childrens mother also was thin she weighed 115 pounds and was 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Unless she has enormous breasts, that sounds ideal.
She said the two older children were small for their ages because they didnt have "animal steroids and other products that the average person consumes."
That may also be true. I have heard statistics that in one generation the average height in Japan has grown by something like three inches. That aint evolution there.
None of the children have been vaccinated, and the family believes in holistic medicine and were in contact with a doctor in Wisconsin who would explain to them how to treat their children after diagnosing them, the report said.
I think that is prudent as well. Anybody ever read the Susan Powter book on the subject? How many kids needed tubes in their ears pre-1980? Notice also that the kids were actually intelligent. Malnutrition, especially prenatal and postnatal would preclude that.

Okay. I'm going to defend veganism. I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you're getting enough calories and nutrients. There are plenty of non-meat sources of protein and non-dairy sources of calcium. I would suspect that these parents are ignorant vegans. Probably didn't do any homework on how to live a healthy vegan lifestyle.
That being said, there is no excuse for any parents, no matter what sort of diet they follow, to allow their children to become malnurished.

Vegans can't be expected to think straight -- they are nuturitionally deprived. Their brains simply are not getting the nutriton they need to think.
That is, they are stupid brainlessbrain-dead.

Did anyone else notice the father seems to have an appropriate weight while everyone else in the family is grossly underweight (and 5'6" 115 is too thin unless you're Ann Coulter). I have to wonder if he doesn't make a few McDonalds trips while Mom is at home with the kids.

Many vegans are as skinny as a stick. That is definitely not a healthy way to be.

I understand that. But how does that make this situation any less child abuse?

Here's what I just sent to The AZ Republic today:
With regard to the kids whose parents were recently arrested because of their health (Vegans accused of starving 3 kids).
The media is proud to point out that these kids were homeschooled. This is not a homeschooling issue. It is a health issue.
I don't see the media going out of their way to report teachers who are charged with child molestation as "government employed teachers." Nor do we see "government schooled student brings gun/weapons to school."
Let's hope that homeschooling families are not cast in a negative way as a result of this isolated incident.
