Most of the sorters are direct-hire by UPS and are also Teamsters. I used to work there - but I opted out of the union.

UPS advertising scam:

"We deliver more on-time packages than anyone else."

True, as far as it goes, but UPS also delivers more late packages than anyone else.

Because UPS is weighted toward ground transport, their per-day package volumes are still considerably higher than FedEx (which is the volume leader in the overnight business).

In on-time %, FedEx is way ahead of UPS.

I don't know when you worked there -- I worked there about 3 years ago and I was a temp. Most if not all of the sorters in that particular location were hired as temps of Spherion. Different locations perhaps do things differently. My experience with both Spherion and UPS was abysmal -- the inmates were running the asylum.

Actually, DHL, Deutsche Post and DANZAS are just one big happy company now - all under the control of the German Government.

What happened with the FedEx/ UPS lawsuit against DeutchePost in it's takeover of Airborne and DHL? Is it now OK for a foreign-owned carrier to do domestic air service in the US?

DHL is not one of my favorites right now- I was sent a critical package via DHL that never made it to me. The company first tried to blame me saying that the address was wrong and did not exist. Only after a couple of weeks of going back and forth did they admit that they had lost the package.

I was at UPS in North Texas about 6 years ago, but my friend who still works there tells me not much has changed. They're still direct hires. The inmates are still running the asylum (you're 100% correct there).

I'm a FedEx retiree. In what ways is FedEx not doing the job for you?

"UPS delivers more on-time packages than anyone else."

I guess that when 85% of the packages you move don't have a delivery commitment, you can throw them into the "on-time" column so your stats look good.

They have "lost" numerous packages or more likely they are broken into and the items were stolen... They Have left valuable delivery items without a signature resulting in more loss...and to top it all off they routinely "forget" to pick up my packages when I schedule pick ups.

In the parcel pick-up and delivery business, you usually get what you pay for. Company-wide, DHL's service numbers don't even come close to FedEx. So, you've opted to roll the dice with DHL. Odds are it will eventually catch up with you.

and when it does...I will do what any smart person does...I will for an alternative...but until proven otherwise they have my trust and my business.

Fire the lot of them and start over. In a week they would be whining for their jobs back.

DHL is the absolute worst in the business. They've delivered packages to the wrong house (clear across town, same number but totally different street) and every delivery from them has been late.

I fart in their general direction.

FedEx is the best.

The United Package Stompers can go to he77.

They only deliver post-it notes telling you where to go to pick up your package, which has more times than not in my cases been damaged beyond repair.

And they want more money? Show them the door.

Also, if you ship via Airborne Home, that's really DHL, and your package will be handed off to the USPS for delivery. Amazon.com does this, and as a result, I am close to never buying from amazon.com again.

I retired from FAA prior to the strike. I warned my younger friends not to walk out. Some heeded and thanked me later. Some walked and came whining later for help to be reinstated. Those I turned my back on.
