Skimpy Clothes Banned; What Will Students Wear?

MODESTO, Calif. -- Midriff-baring shirts, low-rise pants, pajamas and slippers will all be off limits this fall for thousands of student in Modesto. So, what will students wear?

Several students that KCRA-TV in Sacramento talked with said they don't know what they will wear when the new dress code rules go into effect because almost everything in their closet does not comply with the dress code. Violating the dress code can draw a suspension.

"I think it is ridiculous. Everywhere you shop, there is nothing to get," said student Ashley Taylor.

Student Alexis Thompson said the new school rules will wipe out her current wardrobe.

"I will probably have to buy all new clothing for next year. It is going to be hard because pretty much all the stores sell lingerie," Thompson said.

And it's not just the girls who will have to dress more conservative. Mike Tershler, a senior at Davis High School, said he likes to show off his boxers, which peak over his pants -- a look that is banned for next year.

"I think I look good, pretty sexy. The ladies like it," Tershler said.

Principal Jeff Albritton is prepared to enforce the dress code in the fall. He said it is a matter of prioritizing education.

"The focus of school has to be business. And this is a distraction that keeps kids minds on what they are here for," Albritton said.

But not all students are against the ban.

"I agree with most of the things because I don't want to see a bunch of skin showing because that is not very classy," said student Kathleen Swicegood. "And we are in an environment where we are supposed to be sort of business like. We are trying to grow up."

Clothing business Anchor Blue has some skin-baring clothes, but the store manager said the key is dressing it up for school.

Students have a big incentive to comply with the new dress code. They will get one warning. After that, they will be suspended

A battery charger? Poor woman, I don't even know what to say.

Note to hubby: I don't want a battery charger for our 31st wedding anniversary next week.

The short tops coupled with those tight and low pants...

Every time I see one of these "MTV Studies" students, I get the feeling that they're advertising something. I wonder what would happen if I put a quarter in the slot?

Spellcheck would not have caught that as it is still a proper word. Unfortunately, too many editors have begun relying on spellcheck instead of doing their jobs.

If the word 'peek' was miss-spelt in the first place, Spell Check return the first viable option as 'peak', and 'peek' next. If the author of the article chose auto-spelling, it would choose 'peak' over 'peek'.

And you are right, journalists shouldn't rely on spellcheck, or atleast, they should proof-read before publishing.

No, Mike, you look like a hobo, and it's very likely that the girls are laughing at you.

Yes, I love the battery charger, honey.

Now, what clothes do you want from your closet this morning? If you bring me a cup of coffee, I'll give you the clothes through the crack in the door.

Socks will be extra. :)

"The focus of school has to be business. And this is a distraction that keeps kids minds on what they are here for," Albritton said. So, what he's saying is kids are here for revealing, skimpy clothes? Not business?

He probably forgot to mention that the battery charger was for the vibrator he gave her for Christmas ;-)

If your husband is the least bit in tune with what women want he won't get you a battery charger, he'll get you a new set of oversized tires for your pickup. Nothing says "I love you" like a new set of 33" radials!

I suppose could be romantic; depending on what the batteries are used for.

I thought about that and if that's the case, it's a forgivable offense. But I told my hubby I wanted to go to the shooting range for our anniversary.
