I last saw the Rolling Stones at the LA Coliseum in 1981. This was the "Tattoo You" tour. Back then, and mind you, this was a quarter of a century ago, this band was already perceived by many as ridiculously old and over-the-hill. But they delivered a kick-ass performance and the stadium was sold-out.

I once read that the Stones had an inferiority complex regarding The Beatles during the 1960s. Well here it is nearly 35 years since The Beatles broke up and this band is still going strong. So far as rock artists are concerned, I believe they are only matched by Bob Dylan in longevity (and recording success).

Nothing against Bob, but I think the Stones passed him decades ago.

The Stones break out there "farewell tour" every couple of years. Bob is still playing 100's of shows a year. The Stones will play a cookie cutter tour, same set list, arrangement every night. Bob is still mixing it up every night, playing a different set every night, a lot of similiar shows but he will mix it up a lot, and he is constantly changing the arrangements of his songs.

Funny...Mick turned 38 that year... and, yeah, I thought that was old, then, too!
