Sounds like it was rendered safe from the get go....Yeah, it's hard to imagine a grenade with pin pulled and handle released that was subsequently picked up and rendered safe.

Thinking along the same lines.
The pin was pulled and the egg was tossed.
The spoon should have came off.
Might be some kinda home made weapon.
Made me scratch my head when they said that a Georgian just walked away with it.

I used to work on a hand grenade range training new soldiers and we had a lot of duds. Sometimes the troops would forget to pull the pin. Then there was a safety pin over the lever which had to be pushed off. Then sometimes it was just a dud. If they rendered it safe that might mean they unscrewed the fuse and took it out of the grenade.
