Richmond -- Snipers John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo will stand trial next in Maryland, where six of the 10 slayings that terrorized the Washington area in the fall of 2002 took place, Virginia's governor decided Tuesday.
Muhammad, 44, and Malvo, 20, will be sent across the Potomac River to stand trial, Gov. Mark R. Warner said.
Montgomery County State's Attorney Douglas Gansler said he planned to try both men on the six murder charges the county filed against them a day after their arrest.
"These defendants need to be tried under another set of laws and another set of facts as an insurance policy," Gansler said.

Ohio has a guy who killed 10 people by sniping on the interstates. He was tried, and guess what? The idiot jury can't decide whether to pin a medal on him or make him president. They are hung up on what his mental state was when he killed 10 people. Half want him to fry and half want him to go free, as he has to be crazy, right? So everybody was sent home. Virginia, be glad your juries and judges don't come from Ohio.
they're sending murderers, not snipers.media defines "snipers" as anyone shooting a long arm.
therefore all of us who hunt need to turn in our
shotguns and rifles since they are "sniper rifles" as defined by Chuckles Schumer and company.
Any bets on them making it all the way across? /dark humor
I think it's really neat ... I mean, as long as lawyers are making money on it then they won't have time on their hands and decide to run for political office. Our criminal justice system is of the lawyers, by the lawyers, and for the lawyers. Stated another way ... IT SUCKS!!!!!
You know, if they do this right, these two monsters will spend the rest of their lives on trial, having to sit through lengthy descriptions of just how horrible their crimes really were, constantly reminded of the consequences of their evil rampage, with crime scene and autopsy photos, testimony from witnesses and grieving relatives, the whole nine yards.
And being sentenced to the max each and every time, each ruling another nail in their proverbial coffins.
Something about the idea seems so incredibly poetic to me for some reason.
