I'm completely astonished at the money and attention being paid by the MSM and the politicians to things like smoking and obesity and yet I rarely, except here on FR,read anything about marburg or sars or Avian flu.

My mother was in her teens and often talked about the flu pandemic in 1918 and she said it was just awful.

A book called "Flu" by Gina Kolata brought the horror of it to me.

I certainly hope the government can push for something to be developed before we have a pandemic like 1918.

Avian flu is a real risk for the future. If I lived in the city, I'd be REALLY concerned about what may be coming.

A couple of years ago, when SARS was a concern, our family made the contingency plans we'd need in case of a genuine pandemic. It was a useful exercise; I think everyone ought to have such plans.
