Man Arrested For Stomping Geese To Death Says He Felt Threatened

POSTED: 9:05 am EDT May 9, 2005

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- A man who allegedly stomped a Canada goose and its five goslings to death in Massachusetts this weekend is in court Monday on animal cruelty charges.

John Sanders says he's "heartbroken" over the incident. He tells The Boston Globe he felt threatened because the geese were acting aggressively and moving toward him, hissing and beating their wings.

Police say Sanders, an industrial engineer from Rhode Island, slipped and fell in mud after an adult goose hissed at him.

According to the police report, Sanders got up angry and went into a rampage, chasing and kicking the geese.

See, after reading all of these stories, I can actually see this man becoming panic stricken and kicking and lashing out in all directions, and if there were goslings under his feet too bad. Sounds like this story isn't as cut and dried as it may have started out.

LA Law episode

I seem to remember Laurie Partridge saying something about a guy teeing up a bullfrog.... this may have been to represent a pattern of progression in his attacks. I think he did kill a swan and the owner of the golf course wanted to be compensated because rare birds were very expensive then. I don't think they are now. My uncle was raising them for a while but he said the bottom fell out of the market.

Guineas used to scratch my cousin Rita up on a weekly basis. I was scared to death of 'em. They'd follow you around and look for a chance to pounce.

No, but they WILL call in the cops on you for chewing gum, walking the halls, unauthorized cell phone usage, etc. Even being 5 and throwing a tantrum.

I am not getting upset about some dead birds.

I have probably killed more geese than you and lots of pheasants also.

But stomping on the heads of baby geese is a Jeffrey Dahlmer situation waiting to happen.

7 geese X $250 = $1750 fine

That is CRAZY!!! You can buy them for $5 a piece. These animals are out of control. We have got to get a grip in this country. These are animals and are causing trouble. Too many have been smoking WEED or something.

I don't think geese are all that vicious. Certainly no more vicious than the fighting 'cocks' that are bred for cockfights.

And back when I was in college, I had a job to feed the 'fighting cocks' and collect any eggs laid by their hens.

Now, they were vicious, with razor sharp spurs about an inch and a half long.

But still, all you'd have to do is just boot them away when they got to close. Of course, they'd come right back, so you'd have to do it again... and again... and again.

Eventually, they learned.

let's hope this fiend gets jail and a big, fat fine. He didn't feel 'threatened'. He was angry because she hissed at him, protecting her goslings, and he fell on his big fat bottom. Throw the book at this creep.

That and manhood classes.

All those delighting in the Big Man who stomped the goose and her goslings all experienced a tiny growth in their virtually nonexistant manhood today.

I agree - the canadian geese are disgusting to me.

they are out of control in population, they leave their disgusting feces everywhere - and I actually wish they would have controlled kills of them like they do deer.

When I see a goose and her goslings they make me ill....because they've just doubled the population again.

I watched a barmaid as she walked into work at the Hilton (there's a pond that the hotel surrounds on one half). That big ole honker snuck up behind her and gave her a hello howdy on the butt. She spun around and literally kicked his feathers off.

Half a dozen patrons watching through the pitcure windows were on the verge of needing oxygen.

Goose/waitress/beer/nostrils!! Snort!

Q: Hey, Kathy, been goosed lately?
A: You're next, bucko.

The bar was named, somewhat appropriately, M.R.Ducks

Once me and the tech support manager were kept a few feet back from the card swipe at the building's door by a herd of Rhode Island reds. The roosters did not appreciate us approaching his harem. Well, then. The V.P. of software walked up and told the tech support manager they belonged to the company, and we were going to get some sheep to graze on the lawn. (ya, right.)

The tech support manager told him "just don't tell the tech support guys."

I'm not defending him. I'm saying he shoouldn't hang. Should he be punished? Maybe. But saying he should be hanged is extreme.

Which doesn't include HANGING SOMEONE for killing an ANIMAL. The law doesn't provide for that.
