Mr. Long said the Senate's Republican majority would probably jump on the feel-good bandwagon if the Senate leadership decided to endorse the legislation, assuming it emerges from committee.

I thought NY was a totally blue state. Interesting that on the state level the Repuglies are just as into nannyism as any 'Rat could be. Time to unenroll from the Republican Party and resume Independant status.

Suffolk County on LI was a statistical dead heat last November. 49%-49%. Nassau was 51%-48% Kerry-Bush. Take the urbanized areas of Hempstead, Long Beach, Glen Cove and the black areas of Freeport, Roosevelt and New Cassel out of the mix and Nassau would have gone Bush.
