Love Art. Hate his guests.

I think he does too, honestly.

I always get the feeling that Art doesn't take his own guests seriously at all.

I liked hearing a flaky professor tell him a week ago Friday that Art has been named the acting CEO for a new fuel pill brought to us by aliens. You drop it in a gas tank filled with water and you have 92 octane gas.

Art asked the professor what would need to be done and among them, should Art accept (he did on air), he'd have to have a chip with the information implanted in his butt.

I got a great laugh out of all of that!

Uh, well, you played kind of loose with the facts here, but there was a show on Coast to Coast the resembles your contention.

The "flaky professor" in question happens to be Morgus the Magnificent, a legendary television horror host since 1959. The whole premise was as real as Elvira's boobs.

You'd be amazed (and frightened) at some of the email that came into my website as a result of the Dr.'s appearance. It does explain, however, how we nearly had a John Kerry presidency and are threatened with another Clinton in the White House. Some people will just believe anything. Sheesh...

I agree, which is a big part of what makes his show so great.

Sadly, George Noory gives you the feeling that he takes his guests very seriously indeed. He's too gullible.

Art Bell is just as wacky as some as his guests.

I just get the feeling that Art is always trying to 'sound thoughtful.' His wacky guest (or caller) says something wacky, so Art pauses and lets out a deep "unh-huhhhhhhhh" as if his great mind were thinking deeply on the subject.

In truth, Art Bell is easily as nutty as most of the people who call in. He does, after all, peddle that 'mass consciencesness,' 'quickening,' New Age junk himself, not to mention buddying up to self-described alien abductee Whitley Streiber.

Art can be funny sometimes, but I think people are mistaken if they see him as some kind of 'normal guy/conservative-in-disguise.'

Actually the show tonight was interesting, "The Long Emergency" by James Howard Kuntzler or Kuntsler) sounds
interesting.

His talk covered many things and curves in the possible problems in the future in keeping the oil flowing.

But it covered more than where to get oil.

His thoughts on the changes we will need to make to deal with the shortage of oil, are interesting.

Small towns pulling together and growing their own food.

Going from the largest buildings, to smaller, for ease in
heating and cooling.

It would be worth reading the book.

But then I still think one should grow their food and meat and have at least 6 months of food on hand.

When i first quit driving in town, I went for a year without being able to go to a market, got awfully boring and used up almost all that I had on hand, before I hired a Lady
over the Internet for a day of shopping.

That is when I found the dehydrated foods and started ordering them. I get all of mine from

http://www.waltonfeed.com

Even the flour is cheaper and better from them, after paying the freight, then it is to shop in Kingman at the stores.

The next hard times will be for you youngsters, learn, read the old ways, find out what wild plants are safe to eat, even in the middle of the desert, we can eat some of the cactus and wild mustard.

I bought pigweed seeds and planted them, they are a nice
green, steamed and a little butter.

Now that I can no longer garden, I sprout seeds for fresh greens, the ones I use, are bought at Walton's in 5 pound bags of a mixed seed of different beans, peas and wheat and some that I am not sure what they are, except they are good.

Forget about the generators, learn the old Indian ways to dry food, go to bed at dark and yes, we will exist without a computer.......LOL

Several times, I have heard Art Bell and George Noory explain that, within broad limits, they do not vouch for their guests and their theories but regard Coast to Coast as a forum and their role as being to draw out their guests and help them make their points. I have heard them get angry and pitch guests off the air when exposed as deliberate liars instead of sincerely holding to crackpot theories and oddball views, which is the essential premise of Coast's programming.

When pressed to agree, Bell has even contradicted longtime guest and pal Richard Hoagland as to his reading of Mars photographs ("Richard, all I see is rocks, just like the desert in my backyard" -- and said with a belly laugh rather than as an apology). Contrary to jibes from the mainstream, Bell is not an endlessly credulous sap -- even if to a casual listener he may seem to play one on the radio.

This show is entertaining but I take very little seriously that I hear there.

One of my favorite callers years ago claimed there was a little alien throwing Mars Bars out of a space ship in his back yard. It was hilarious.

Actually, I think Bell and Noory are a conservative influence. Any day now, I expect to read an article in National Review or some other right venue that lets the cat out of the bag: Bell and Noory matter politically and help our side.

Bell and Noory are both unapologetic military veterans and are instinctively patriotic and respectful toward George Bush in a way that is impossible to imagine on Air America. I have heard both make comments about Rush Limbaugh that indicate personal regard for him, and they seem to have generally conservative views, with strong libertarian and anti-elite tendencies -- a good fit for a radio show with a strong following among long haul truckers and cops stuck on the night shift.

Bell and Noory also circulate conservative news and views in palatable form to an audience that is mostly apolitical, and in its defining New Age segment, mostly hostile to declared Republicans and conservatives. The news bits and guests often have a conservative message: China is sinister and increasingly dangerous; governments and secretive elites are untrustworthy; the UN is hopelessly corrupt, as shown by the oil for food scandal; terrorists and rogue nations are a mortal danger to the US; and so on. I am confident that tonight's show on immigration will be cheered by most Freepers who hear it.

Moreover, Coast to Coast is a conservative influence because it subverts the hold of America's liberal elites. The core audience for Bell and Noory consists of "people of faith" who do not adhere to the scientific and materialist explanations for all things insisted upon by America's educated elites.

People who listen to Coast's stable of maverick scientists, investigative journalists, ghost hunters, sasquatch chasers, and ET believers are simply not going to reflexively defer to big government and the professiorate of the Ivy League. In a culture dominated by the Left, thinking for yourself and being skeptical of authority is often the essential beginning step toward consciously conservative views.

Perhaps, like "South Park conservatives," we ought to recognize the category of "Coast to Coast conservatives" for a similarly subversive program.

That is not what I heard on the news just a couple of days ago. I heard supplies were up and prices were slowly coming down.

Because of my work schedule, I generally have the radio on from about 2:30 AM to 5:00 AM in the morning as I prepare for and travel to work. The local radio station is WWL and they used to have several versions of truckers shows on that were entertaining to listen to even if you were not a trucker.

I have tried listening to both Art Bell and the other guy from time to time because my late mother-in-law spoke of them in glowing terms. However, I could never get past the obvious quacks that would show up on the show and the seeming legitimacy that was being afforded to those people by the hosts. I guess that is not my cup of tea.

I sent an email to the local radio station to let them know that I was disappointed that they had gone to the Bell program. They explained that it was a ratings issue. I feel that it is a self-fulfilling prophesy since if the only thing that is on is the Bell program, then the only thing you can listen to is them, hence the ratings are up.

I really tried to listen to them last week, but turned it off when they were talking about Bigfoot and some lady came on and announced that she was a "professional animal communicator" and had talked with Big Foot. The Twilight Zone theme started to reverberate in my head immediately.

I did what any sane person would have done at that point and put a Slim Whitman CD in for the rest of my journey to work.

Actually, this guest didnt sound like a doom and gloomer to me...He said the US production peaked in the 1970s, and that signs were pointing toward world production peaking in the near future. He said that you can't tell until you see five or ten years of past oil production data. He also pointed out (as has the Wall Street Journal) that the major oil companies are taking their profits and merging, rather than exploring for new finds. They feel that N America is played out, and that any new discoveries will be made by state companies of China and Russia.

I went to bed at Midnight, but the scenarios they were discussing were if the Saudi's decided that partnering with the US was a disadvantage and they deciding to export to China...what would happen. 20% of our imports would vanish overnight.

If anyone else listened further and could post a recap, I would appreciate it.
