On Saturday afternoon, I drove to Rockville, Md., for a large "gathering to condemn the REAL ID Act." (The act will tighten driver's license standards to prevent illegal aliens from obtaining the IDs, close asylum loopholes, and provide funding to fix a huge gap in a border fence between California and Mexico.) Casa de Maryland, a government-funded open-borders group, organized the protest on the public school athletic field at Richard Montgomery High School.
You can see the rally photos I took at my new Flickr site. Here's a sample: www.flickr.com
Several hundred "documented" and "undocumented" workers attended, demanding driver's licenses and blanket amnesty. Maryland is one of ten states that don't require applicants to prove they are citizens or legal residents. Nevertheless, militant CASA leader Gustavo Torres complained: "The MVA [Motor Vehicle Administration] has absolutely no right to ask for people's Social Security number or immigration status to get a driver's license." The illegal alien advocates led protesters in a chant demanding that the "MVA Obey The Law!"
No kidding.
A contingent of Montgomery County police officers were dispatched to the scene--not to help with immigration enforcement, but to protect the protesters, help direct traffic, and manage the parking lot for illegal aliens who (ahem!) drove to the event. Our tax dollars at work.
With Casa de Maryland organizers shouting "No license, no justice! No justice, no peace!" in the background (the only time I could understand them as they exhorted the crowd), I interviewed Montgomery County, Md., police lieutenant J.R. Hack (yeah, that's his real name). Lt. Hack amiably told me the protest was "a good thing." When I asked him why, he said "everyone should have a voice."

No, shewon't DO it; she'll campaign on it.
Yup. A police state that represents the interests of foreign nationals, not the citizenry it supposedly derives its legitimacy from.
"No license, no peace."
Is that a threat. What are they gonna do, riot in the streets? Good, then maybe Marylanders will see what all this pandering to illegals will get them.
This Lt. hack sounds like a real wuss too. if he can't enforce the laws then he should turn his badge in.
Precisely the kind of (uninformed)voter she is trying to reach. You might want to better educate yourself on the specifics of her proposals. She isn't really opposed to what you think she is. She (double)speaks with a very forked tongue on the subject of illegal aliens.
Just a friendly FReeper Clarification: we know the leftie/bolshevik MO of getting the laws and LEOs tied in pretzel knots by any means ,...it is their old "tried and true" playbook , deception and changing things by small incremental steps UNTIL ,"OMG how did things get like this??" , the Judiciary is so very VERY important

Asked if the Department of Homeland Security had been notified of the illegal alien rally, Lt. Hack emphatically said no. "We're here to help them."
Even if they're here illegally? I asked. "We don't want to initimidate anyone," said Lt. Hack.
Shouldn't you report people to DHS if you know they are here illegally? I asked. "That's not my responsibility," he said.
ping again on this thread , What a Distracting Day , LOL!! for dads, that is,....
I understand her ability to double talk. If she were, and I understand this to be a long-shot, to unequivocally and specifically come out against illegal immigration I would seriously consider voting for her. I view illegal immigration to be that important of an issue.
Both the RINOs and the RATs are in cahoots when it comes to illegals.
You hit the nail on the head. The Dems got the Motor Voter act passed as
a back door way to allow illegals to vote. Cutting them off from getting
drivers licences will help this problem some. The main problem though is
that many localities have very loose (or no) documentation standards. In
many cases, one just has to claim to be a citizen to be allowed to vote.
Personally, I'd get real suspicious if the person registering spoke litte or
no English. But one is not allowed to use common sense in our PC culture.
Round them up, DNA tag them, deport them, and then SEAL THE BORDERS!!!
Lt. Hack will go far in law enforcement. Hes very PC.
Heck you don't need a drivers license to run a weed wacker.
Stop the insanity!
"These "police" do not represent the majority of American citizens and are actually facilitating illegal activities."
No, but they DO represent Montgomery County, Maryland (c. 2005)PERFECTLY. Remember Chief Moose? He ran that department for years. He let the DC area vipers continue for weeks because he refused to let the profile show that the shooters might have been black, and not white rednecks. That's Montgomery County ... where Moose is considered a HERO. Enough said.
Montgomery County, Maryland is populated with government workers, glib libs, and upscale pundits. You really wouldn't want to live there.
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
