Stealth Plan for Women in Combat
The Washington Times ^ | May 8, 2005 | Elaine Donnelly

Gen. Peter Schoomaker raised eyebrows when he dismissed as not a "gender issue" the women-in-combat controversy at an American Enterprise Institute symposium.

The Army Chief of Staff April 11 answered a questioner who rightly praised the courage of female soldiers but expressed concern about the unprecedented number of women maimed or killed in Iraq (33, to date) and Afghanistan (5).

I look forward to why the DoD is so willing to violate the precepts and understood risks taken by female soldiers on enlistment. I realize the main pressure is from female officers wanting to get their combat tickets punched for the sake of their careers. Meanwhile Jane Doe gets the bullets and grenades.

I'm willing to start a war over whether women should be in combat.

If women enlistees are certain to be sent to Iraq and exposed to combat, it will greatly reduce the number of women enlistees

Perhaps that's the plan

My friend, just back form Iraq and in the thick of the fighting, was wholly unimpressed with the Army.

He called it a pussified organization with an officer corps full of political hacks. They are concerned with form, not function.

He wants out and would never reenlist.

Women in combat only get in the way. WAR is not the place to be "politically correct." The whole purpose of war is go stop the enemy in whatever way works best. Women in combat do not "work best."

As the father of a female Army combat medic surrently serving in Mosul and on occasion Tall Afar, you don't know what the hell you are talking about. And you aren't alone judging from the previous posts.

Moot point. Women are already in combat and have been for quite some time.

You really oughta pay more attention--women make up nearly 20% of forces in Iraq and most are performing admirably. My girl is there, in Mosul no less escorting convoys to Tall Afar, and her cousin, another female, just graduated from basic training. The paln is to rely on those willing to do what far too many aren't----man young men are coming up short making the men and women who are still volunteering that much more remarkable and noteworthy and deserving of the utmost respect.

Why do you support reducing the effectiveness of our armed forces?

Tell that to my daughter who just got back to Mosu from Tall Afar where she manned the gunners hatch of a Stryker Medical Evac Vehicle. Went to Tall Afar, in part, to treat detainees and document their injuries before returning to Mosul with them loaded in open trucks. Many of these females make better soldiers than some of the men who disappear when such convoys are being 'manned' and I see a lot of 20 something year old 'men' walking around the malls. You have a right to your opinion--in part because there are women like my daughter, and a female cousin training to do the same duty protecting those rights.

Sorry to sound so harsh, but I have a right, too.

If one really wants to put this to the test, re-institute the draft and have 18 year old females register.

At that point, at least will have a sense of how the country feels about females in the military.

The US Army is the most efective fighting force in history--you disagree? I would prefere an all male combat force, but you may know that recruiting is suffering shortfalls as it is---not enough real men out there to do the job, apparently. Thank God for the women who step up, willingly and knowing full well what their duty may demand, and doing it with excellence.

Stealth Plan for Women in Combat

I hope this isn't true. If they have stealth technology for women now, we men are hosed. Wimmens are stealthy enough as it is.

As the father of three sons serving in combat infantry units two of which have 8years each in the service I would like to thank you for raising a daughter willing to make the sacrifice. All of my sons have spent time down range and I have never heard one of them complain about the outstanding women they serve with. Some people just look for reason to complain.
